I hate to talk on the phone, I hate it at work, I hate it at home...now how does one get through life like that?  I am always awkward, except with family, and we know to cut it short, no BS, when using the phone.  It's not a phobia (wait, maybe it IS) but I am ever so much happier writing journals, e-mails, comments, hugs and, of course, in person contact.

As I have come to know certain people here on DS, I have exchanged phone numbers and addresses.  I look forward to and fully intend on meeting friends in person someday, at least the folks out West.  But how does one take the next step in a friendship without talking on the phone next?

I am a weirdo.

Hi Margie- there are no rules that say you have to call someone. Just keep writing and tell them what you said here, that you love keeping in touch but prefer to do it thru visual media rather than audio.
Keep on writing, I love that too. Lots of people like books on tape, but not me. I love the feel of the paper, the weight of the book, the flipping open and reading and then markng my spot where I leave off. It is a tactile thing. Maybe you are kinda like that, but with writing instead. I like writing by hand too. I love my pens and paper and collect beautiful stamps and put stickers all over things. Different strokes for different folks!
Love your quotes! I'll send you some of my fav, ok?
    Love ya, Jani xxx ooo

Darling, I have days that I can't stand the phone either... Journals and hugs and emails are easier sometimes (esp. when roid rage sets in...)... Do what feels best for you because your friendship feels like a lifeline today... xoxoox Cj

I hear ya Margie I feel awful sometimes when I dont call back my friends especially after they have called me last. I always remember when its to late or do (i do that on purpose-i am awful..). Last night about 11:00 I emailed a friend and talked to her and said I was sorry I didnt call back. Were suppose to get together but I asked her if she would like to come over tomorrow(Friday) after to work for a visit so we will see. I have another friend that I am suppose to call and I havent in a couple of weeks so I need to call her too. Just a few minutes a friend called and said what have you been up to and we talked about 15 minutes and now I am on the computer. Havent done a darn thing since I got up this morning.. Its raining like crazy here. Lousy day. BUT I know what you mean about the phone.. I need to work on that myself. Have a good day hon... Talk to you soon..xxxooo Mary

I have a love/hate relationship with my phone. I'm with you too would rather e-mail. My BFF will not get a computer and wants to talk for hours on the phone. My arm gets tired of holding the phone to my ear. I always have to end the conversation and I feel bad for doing that. She is 51, never been married, and has no kids I keep telling her she needs to get a computer but she just won't do it.

I'm happy when it is wrong mumber, or even one of those annoying reminders for appointmesnt or refils, do. It is too strong focus one-to-one on the phone. ;o)

Yup, you are right, Clare, it is the intensity, plus too easy to say the wrong thing, can't edit my mouth very well! Leanna, I LIKE being weird, if you are too! Thanks all, for the comments! *M
