    About Me

Epileptic cartoonist/graphic artist, 47, career on hold while raising 9yr-old with hubby. Partially housebound due to epilepsy and no extended family to help. When I'm not a raving lunatic, I'm funny, intelligent, creative, resourceful, multi-faceted, and love discussing just about anything with any reasonable person.

    Interests

Art, artists, animation, cartooning, food, wine, animals, the Science, Discovery, History, NatGeo, & Food channels. I have to stay out of bookstores, food emporiums, bakeries, art supply stores and yarn shops.

    • Close Menopause

I started minor symptoms over 3 years ago (nail deterioration, bad mood swings, etc.), but the s--- didn't really hit the fan until Dec.2005. One of the most intolerable symptoms that I get is gastrointestinal distress (GID). This along with depression, dizziness, cramps, severe fatigue, dementia, severe back- & body-aches make me wish that all I had were hot flashes and vaginal dryness.

      Treatments

      Estrogen Patch Somewhat Helpful
When it made a difference, it was usually only slightly.

      Progesterone Working / Worked
      Appears to work
    • Close Epilepsy & Seizures

I'm a 47-yr-old cartoonist (career currently on hold while raising a child with my husband). Had a bicylcle accident at 21 resulting in epilepsy, averaging 4 seizures a month. Have not been able to ascertain exactly WHAT triggers them off; they can happen anytime anywhere under any conditions. (Even had one during sex! My poor hubby!) Am also now menopausal, which is more debilatating than epilepsy (at least for me; my heart goes out to those having several or more a day.)

      Treatments

      Depakote Not Working
      Gave it up.
      Keppra Somewhat Helpful
Sort of works; still having szs, but also get VERY fatigued.
      Neurontin Not Working
      Gave it up.
      Tegretol Somewhat Helpful
Still taking this along with Keppra. Both make me SO TIRED.
