You know what I find hardest about TOS? That the smallest tasks for healthy people are incredibly difficult for people with TOS. Doing homework, brushing your teeth, folding laundry, or sitting in classrooms for long periods of time. It's already hard enough to pay attention during a night Oceanography class. Add pain and discomfort on top of that and you've got one unhappy student.
But my day always seems to turn around when I go to the music building and practice my instrument- the flute. It's like a mini-vacation. I'm allowed to do what I want for this short amount of time and am allowed to choose what I want to play. I can even close my eyes and imagine a story going along with the music I play.
After I practice for less than an hour, there is always a student that will compliment how I sound. Compliments always boost everybody's confidence. But to hear a compliment towards something I've worked so hard to obtain, something I've gone through every possible human emotion with, something that I truly and absolutely love- brings so much faith to my day. It tells me that performing flute is what I was meant to do. That I need to push through the pain and believe that better times will come. That I will be a successful and professional flute player- pain or no pain.
