    • Close Heart Failure

I was diagnoised with heart failure in August 2005 at age 48. I thought I had a really bad cold or may be pneumonia. Luckily, my general practitioner had me get a chest x-ray before prescribing me antibiotics and decongestants. After the chest x ray I was immediately admitted to the hospital and then sent to Emory in Atlanta. I have idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy. This has really changed my life.

      Treatments

      Aldactone Working / Worked
I was on this medication for 2 1/2 years. I recently was taken off. My doctor is trying to get my blood pressure up some so I won't be so tired.
      Amiodarone Working / Worked
There are lots of side effects that are really scary. Because of this drug I have improved and have a better quality of life.
      Carvedilol Not Working
I took this medication for less that a week. I had an allergic type reaction. I got a skin rash. It was unbearable. I was taken off of this medication and put on Toprol XL
      Cozaar Working / Worked
I have not been taking this medication very long(several months) I was put on this after being taken off of lisinopril which caused a cough.
      Lasix Working / Worked
      I am on a 40mg a day dosage.
    • Close Arrhythmias

I was diagnoised with heart failure in August 2005 at age 48. As it turns out part of my problem is a Preventricular Contraction that causes my heart to be much less efficient. Obviously, I am at risk for sudden heart rhythm problems or I wouldn't have the ICD.

      Treatments

      Amiodarone Working / Worked
I have adjusted to taking this med. I am now on a dose of 100mg a day.
      Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator Working / Worked
I feel less worried about something happening to me knowing I have this protection. I have had the device for two years and have not had an episode yet.
    • Open Back Pain

I have been diagnoised with spondiolythesis. I am in constant pain. My heart problems complicate the pain meds I can take. Looks like surgery is in my future.

      Treatments

      Chiropractic Adjustment Not Working
I tried several treatments. I did get some relief but not much.
      Epidural Injection Somewhat Helpful
This helped for a while, but I got the heart failure right after my 3rd injection
      Ibuprofen Somewhat Helpful
Can't use anymore because of heart failure
      Naproxen Working / Worked
Can't use anymore because of heart failure
      Physical Therapy Somewhat Helpful
It helped while I went but was not a permanent fix.
    • Open Pacemakers

I have a bi-ventricular pacemaker with an ICD. I am very thankful for it. Along with medications it has brought me from an ejection fraction of 10-15% in Aug. 2005 to 50% now. I was even able to have a back surgery that I have needed for years. I thought I would never be able to get it corrected. They didn't even have to turn off my pacemaker during the surgery. AMAZING! I would love to hear from others...
