Because I work from home, it is strange how different my life has become. I don't really go anywhere, except to church on Sundays, and sometimes the grocery store. The thing is, my home office and my bedroom are both down in our refinished basement. Sometimes I wonder if I will ever see the light of day. LOL! Well, this weekend, instead of our usual Saturday bus ride to the library and such that my son, brother and myself have turned into a weekly tradition, I was roped into working. Nothing came out of it, which I was angry about, because it meant I had to lose my trip to the library, but I dealt with it.
Anyways, on Sunday, my seven year old son accidently broke the picture window in the living room. Now he is responsible for paying it back by doing chores. Yes, I know he's only seven, but responsibilty has to be learned. Anyways, yesterday I set him to folding laundry downstairs with me. I was in my office, and he in the next room. Well about forty-five minutes into it, he turned around and said, "You're doing a great job, Mom!" WOW!!!! Do you know how much that little bit of praise affected me? I was crying happy tears for a few minutes and I thanked him a few times before praising him in kind.
I don't think I'd noticed how little family members tend to praise each other. I'd learned in a parenting class that it was the most effective teaching method for parents, so I'd in effect modeled this behavior for him. How inspiring. Thank God for little boys!
