About Me
Was diagnosed in 2003/2004 with Graves & had RAI in May 2005 if I remember right. In May 1992, my senior year of high school, I had a horse accident in which I broke my back. Thankfully, I can still walk. The combination of the two can be horrible but usually it's either one or the other - thankfully. I have tried to learn to deal with it the best I can & if it hasn't been for my husband, I don't think I would be where I am now - which is pretty good. He has been with me through all of it & we were only dating at the time of the horse accident.
Interests
I'm happily married with 3 kids. I have 4 horses, 3 dogs & 2 cats. My family is my life. I enjoy reading & spending time on the computer. That's if I'm not doing something with my husband & kids.

Good luck with the dentist, teeth problems can really ruin your day and week. Ive had an absess tooth before and it really hurts. Congrats on the diet and weight loss. Losing weight for me is just as tough as stopping smoking. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks, I did have a good day. Thank you for keeping in touch. We have had a lot going on. Hubby lost job 2 weeks ago but as of yesterday got a better one! Praise God! Hope you are doing well! God bless!

Close Graves' Disease
I was diagnosed with Graves between 2003/2004 & had RAI between May 2005. Unfortunately I don't exactly remember when diagnosed. My thyoid was so hyper it was pretty much no longer registering. I had to have the max dose of RAI allowed. I'm now hypo & taking Levothyroxine. My Endo & I are still trying to get things leveled out.
Treatments
- Radioactive Iodine Working / Worked
- I had to have the highest dose possible.This did work but still did not kill my throid completely, almost though. I am now hypo because of it. But I would do again if I had to.
- Tapazole Not Working
- This didn't work at all for me. Would not bring my levels down & had to have RAI.
Close Back Pain
May 1992 I had a horse rear up over backwards onto me. I ended up breaking my back, my pelvis in several locations & being told at that time I would never walk or ride again. This was all my senior year in high school w/ 2 weeks of school before graduation. I'm still walking & ride when I can. I have two screws at my pelvis & tailbone to hold them together & my lower back is a mess. I have pain everyday otherwise. On top of that I have Graves Disease.
Treatments
- Epidural Injection Working / Worked
- I have had 2 rounds of Epis. The first was in 2005. The last was in 2007. The Dr does them w/ x-ray assist to pin point exact location where the meds are needed. I had more problems with the 2nd shot the last time around mainly because it was too close to my screws.
- Heat Working / Worked
- Does wonders to help relieve the muscles when they are tight. I don't use it all them time, just when things start to get unbearable.
- Ibuprofen Working / Worked
- I take Iburprofen when I need it. It helps sometimes but not all the time. When I do take it, I take up to 1000MG at a time.
- Physical Therapy Working / Worked
- I underwent 6 weeks of physical therapy after my last round of Epidurals. I learned several other stretches to do, had TENS applied along with Ultrasound. Plus a few other things. Other than the TENS it realy helped.
- Stretching Working / Worked
- I do stretches several times a day for my back. Some more extensive than others depending on how it feels. It helps to keeps me moving.
- TENS Not Working
- I had this after my last set of Epis. It might have worked better but we think it had a reaction to the screws & caused me alot of pain. As soon as I quit having the treatments the pain went away.
- Topamax Working / Worked
- My Dr put me on 100MG of Topamax for nerve pain. Even though Topamax is normally for Epilepsy or Migraine patients they are finding it helpful with nerve pain. I have had great luck with it. When starting it you have to start in small doses 25MG and slowly work up to what is right for you. Also you cant stop it right away. I had some issues when I was at 50MG with upset stomach severe dizziness. I just waited an extra week before increasing my dose let my body adjust was fine since.
Open Financial Challenges
My husband & I have had financial problems since we got married in 1993. Some years were better than others. As soon as we started getting back on our feet, he got injured - everytime.

- My husband is self-employed. He is still trying to build his business but it's slow going. He has been looking for a part time job but with no luck. I'm not allowed to work outside the home due to disabilites. I'm trying to find something I can do from home.
- Holding a Garage Sale Working / Worked
- I have held numerous garage sales. I have also sold things on eBay - with minor success.
