Crap. Yesterday was lovely. It was a nice change from what I've been used to. Today my vet called and told me to think strongly about putting my cat down. I have to admit that I've known for some time that his care was more than I could handle--meds, chronic diarrhea, etc., but have been avoiding making the decision to humanely euthanize him. He can no longer tolerate meds and has lost two pounds in about 10 weeks. He's down from 12 to 10 pounds and having a large frame, he's just skin and bones
I guess it's time to do the right thing. I have lost so many friends, relatives, and pets over the past few years that I know it will hurt, but I've done the best I can to be a good pet parent.
Time to step up to the plate and call the vet in the morning and make an appointment. I'll gently take him out for his last sun bath and then feed him expensive tuna--and not worry about the cost or diarrhia for a change. Then I'll turn him over to my higher power and trust that he will go where all energy forms go. I'll probably cry. A lot. Then I may think about how much more care I can give my beagle.
Maybe I'll even volunteer at the humane society, but it's too soon to make any plans like that. One day at a time is plenty for today. I should also be happy that it's not a child or grandchild that I'm losing. That's why I support St. Jude's. I can't imagine having tht kind of a loss and my heart breaks for parents whose kids are on "last chance drug" trials.
