| Trigeminal Neuralgia |
| I am 41 and was dx with TN about 6 years ago, which ultimately lead to my diagnosis of multiple sclerosis as I have it bilaterally. My pain is a deep, gnawing, boring pain and generally feels like someone is shoving nails into my upper jaw. Fabulous huh! I had lots of root canals and teeth pulled prior to the dx as I'm sure many other people have. I finally was unable to work anymore, I was an LPN for 16 years. I'm hoping to get retrained through SSDI for something I can do at home. | |

| Gamma Knife (Not Working) It was very painful, putting the headgear on. Kinda barbaric if you ask me in this day and age. I only had a 50% chance of it working because of the MS. Unfortunately it did not work. | |
| Trileptal (Working / Worked) The trileptal helps. If I stop taking it the pain worsens considerably. I was unable to take any of the other meds due to side effects. I take 900 twice daily. | |
| Topamax (Working / Worked) I actually take this for migraines and it seems to help a little. 200mg daily. My only side effect was weight loss. Not a bad one. | |
| Oxycodone (Working / Worked) I know this is not generally used but it is the only thing that takes my pain down to a manageable level. I take 40mg twice daily. side effects are that Im addicted constipated and the detox is horrible. I know cuz I just tried it and was unable to stop because the pain got so bad. | |

| I was diagnosed with MS in 2003, due to bilateral trigeminal neuralgia | |
| Treatments | |
| Avonex (Not Working) Had horrible migraines | |
| Betaseron (Not Working) Had severe skin reaction | |
| Copaxone (Working / Worked) works great, justhate the daily shots | |
| Oxycodone (Working / Worked) What I'd like to know is when the medical community is going to wake up and start to understand chronic pain and stop treating everyone like we are drug seakers and drug abusers. Of course people who use this on a daily basis are addicted. It's unavoidable. But we should not be punished for it and made to feel ashamed. We have enough burdens to carry. Having been a nurse for 16 years it makes me embarassed for my former profession when I'm treated that way and when I see others treated that way. No one can judge anothers pain. Of course there are always bad apples who are drug seeking but I believe that is the minority, so why punish a whole group of people? | |

| Art (Working / Worked) I write poetry, it gets my emotions out and onto paper | |
| Group Therapy (Not Working) Didn't work for me brought up too many feelings | |
| Leave (Working / Worked) I ran away from home at 18. I ran from 1 abuse into another. I could belong to the PTSD group and the physical and emotional abuse group. But leaving got me away from him. | |
| Reiki (Working / Worked) I am a level 1 reiki practitioner and it helps when I remember to do it | |
| Talking (Working / Worked) I have been with different therapists for 22 years. My last therapist I worked with for 6 yrs. I liked and trusted her. I have a new one because we moved. I will see how it goes | |
