    About Me

I have a wife and 3 boy's, ages 20, 18 and 12.I have been on disability for 7 months due to clinical depression.I was once a very successful business man and now find myself in a "whole new world". My wife has gone back to work after 17 years as a stay at home Mom. I am struggling with accepting this new role. My faith in Christ is at the forefront of my life. I am thankful for my family and hope I can somehow help others in this battle.

    Interests

My family, baseball, music, volunteer work.

      From Love4you Friday

There's a sweet and priceless gift that gives the heart and soul a lift; it can change the human race and make the world a better place; it keeps the vision bright and clear, and takes away the clouds of fear; it lightens every wounded heart and makes the holes within depart; it leads the faithless to believe, and the more of it we give, the more we receive. This priceless gift is known as love, and it's sent from God in heaven above. And He's calling out to all hearts out there, hoping this is a gift you'll eagerly share~Love,Maria

    • Prayer

      From Love4you Friday

Dear God ,please lead my friends and family always. Never let them stray far from your path. Should they forget your love, remind them. And should they forget their dreams, remind them of that too. Rekindle their soul with the fire of hope. Send them your strength and wisdom so that they can strive to do better and see farther. Let them never forget that they are special, with a unique purpose in life. Amen.

A Family is ... People who love you , People who care , People who listen , People who share. Days filled with laughter, Days dimmed with tears, Memories cherished down through the years. Joys that grow deeper , Bonds that are strong , Love you can count on a whole lifetime long~ Love, Maria

    • Close Depression
      Type: Clinical (Major) Depression

I have battled major depression for the last 21 years.I was hospitalized 3 times last year, had ECT and have been on a myriad of medications, from A to Zoloft. This disease is not fully understood.More people are coming out of the closet and looking for help.Doctor's do not have all the answers. In time more understanding will lead to better ways of treating depression. The first step, especially for men,is admitting you have a problem and getting the help you need.

      Treatments

      Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Somewhat Helpful
Only attended around 7 or 8 timz. Seems like more psycho babble...
      Effexor Working / Worked
      Did not work.
      Electroconvulsive therapy Working / Worked
I did not see any positive results. Memory loss, both long and short term is part of the downside of ECT. It was a last resort. However, I DO NOT recommend this treatment.
      Lexapro Working / Worked
      Did not work.
      Meditation Working / Worked
My relationship with Jesus Christ is my hope.
      Paxil Working / Worked
      Did not work.
      Positive Thinking Working / Worked
It's hard to think positive when you are at such a deep level of depression. I believe staying busy by helping others is the best form of therapy.
      Prozac Working / Worked
      Did not work.
      Psychotherapy Working / Worked
This therapy is very helpful, although so much of what you get out of it is not only what you put into it but especially how good your Dr.is.
      Seroquel Working / Worked
It works in knocking me out at night and feeling somewhat hungover the next a.m.
Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
This has been a very big part of my getting through each day. I am so thankful for a wonderful group of family and friends that love me unconditionally.
      Wellbutrin Working / Worked
      Did not work.
      Writing Somewhat Helpful
I write in my journal around 2 or 3 times a month. I cannot say that this is a real positive form of therapy for me. I do like to go back and read 1 and 2 years back and see how I was doing at different intervals of time.
      Zoloft Working / Worked
      Did not work.
      Clonazepam Working / Worked
At one time I was on 8mg. a day! I am down to 2mg. now. It is the one med out of the many I am on, or have been on that calms my anxiety.
    • Close Anxiety

I have been clinically depressed for over 20 years. I have been told by MD's that I have TRD, or treatment resistant depression. See my bio for more specifics...

      Treatments

      Breathing Exercises Working / Worked
They suck. Ok, seriously, I get very little relief from them...
      Inderal Working / Worked
Made me want to "End er' all" Did not see any positive affects.
      Klonopin Working / Worked
I was once on 8 mg. a day.Down to 2 mg. at this point. This med does "calm my emotions/fear to some degree.
      Lexapro Working / Worked
      Did not work
      Meditation Working / Worked
If it was not for my Father in Heaven I don't know where I would be. He's my best friend and Daddy.
      Paxil Working / Worked
      Did not work
      Positive Thinking Working / Worked
      This is so hard to do when you are so far down. i try to see the glass half full. Although I take Seroquel and knock the glass over. :}
      Psychotherapy Somewhat Helpful
A whole lotta hell and then a little bit of heaven...
      Zoloft Working / Worked
      Did not work.
    • Open Bipolar Disorder

I have been diagnosed as bi polar

      Treatments

      Abilify Working / Worked
Used for a short time period without any positive results.
      Ativan Working / Worked
Klonapin is the generic of Lorazapam. I have been on 8mg. a day "at my highest point". I currently take 2 mg. It does help calm anxiety as well as anything I have tried.
      Depakote Working / Worked
This med.was not good at all! I felt "out of sorts" while taking.
      Lamictal Working / Worked
I have been on 200mg a day for several years. It seems to help with the depression.
      Lithium Working / Worked
      Did not work.
      Seroquel Working / Worked
It serves to help put me to sleep in the p.m. However, I believe it has effected my short term memory.
      Wellbutrin Working / Worked
      Did not work.
      Psychotherapy Not Working
I have been diagnosed as bipolar and also as not being b.p. It's according to what Dr. I talk to. I think bi-polar is a gay bear!!!!
