This Memorial Weekend, I hope everyone stops their busyness to say thanks not only to the men and women who died for our freedom, but also for the ones who are sacrificing right now for our country. It does not matter where you stand politically, These men and women should be honored.
I live a few miles from the Riverside National Cemetery. My father and step father are buried there. My father in law is buried at one in Florida. I would just like to bring honor to them and their service. All of these men were buried with honors...flag covered caskets with full taps played and a 21 gun salute. You can't imagine how powerful that is to experience that type of ceremony. At my step father’s funeral-who past away about 18 months ago, the men and women from the Patriot Guard came to honor him. Most of the men and women were Vietnam vets. They came from all different walks in life, and some came over 100 miles! They road Harleys, and all kinds of other bikes and even some had side cars. Everyone had a huge American Flag flying behind them. They followed the hearse as we wound around to the ceremony area. They parked their bikes, and lined the walkway. As the flag draped casket went by, each and everyone of them saluted. Okay, starting to cry here...sorry. Anyway, Our fathers taught us what sacrificing for their country really meant. All three of these men were decorated with all kinds of medals and awards. The funny thing was, not too many of us knew it. We found all those awards when going through paper work after their death. It just blew us all away. They were truly a generation of strong men, with humble spirits.
When my dad died, I promised my self I would do everything possible to never forget what these wonderful men did for our country. I want to always honor their sacrifice along with many others who went before them and for those to come after them. If there is anyone reading this that has lost a loved one who was in the military, or has a loved one serving, please know that my family honor them for all that they do. We will NEVER forget their service.
A huge shout out to our military men and women! THANK YOU FOR SERVING!
Every Memorial Day weekend, thousands of bikers meet at a Harely Davidson store in my town. They have huge flags behind them. The start there which is about 8 miles from the National Cemetery, and all ride together to the cemetery for a Memorial Ceremony. We go to the corner every year, and wave them on. It is quite moving, and a wonderful way to honor their service, as they honor their fellow soldier.
Have a Blessed Memorial Weekend!
A very dear friend here on DS sent this to me. It is absolutely beautiful! Thanks Dave!
