I have all these things I was to do, want to believe in, and act on, but it seems absurd in it's on way. Is it possible to live the life that I wish sometimes? Green-living, vegetarian, helping others, believe in rights of people and animals, recycling, and just general love? Even more, am
I capable of that?
I should have been a hippy :D
I just feel my eyes are open to how inhumane HUMANS are. I wish I could change it all.

- for example.
What do you guys think? Is it possible? Realistic to be a 21st century hippy? :D
First off, GOOD FOR YOU for seeing these as problems and wanting to do your part!
I'll start with the meat because this is something i actually know a lot about! I was a vegetarian for 11 years for exactly these reasons. Then I found http://www.themeatrix.com/ and its partner site http://www.sustainabletable.org/ and realized, not all farms are like this. Some are making a stand! These tend to be local farms whose products are labeled 'sustainable' and "free range." they're harder to find but the sustainable table website has a feature where you can enter your zip code and find stores, restaurants, and farms in your area where you can get this. This way you are supporting the solution, even if you can't make the transition to eating ALL of your meat from there, it helps to give some money to the farmers who are doing the right thing.
Another solution is fish and seafood! this is great for your diet and weight maintenance goals too. Just keep in mind that you're not exactly doing the environment any favors by having Hawaiian Mahi Mahi or Alaskan Snow Crab shipped to you from halfway around the world... the sustainable table websites has tips for seafood as well.
I would recommend making a goal that once a week you do the "ideal" thing. For example, "one day a week I will not eat factory-farm meat. I will eat seafood, or meat from sustainable free-range farms, or no meat at all."
you can also extend this to restaurant eating, for example, "every other time I eat out will be designated a no-meat meal. I'll eat seafood or vegetarian options."
This can apply to other aspects of your life too, for example, making the resolution to take the bus once a week. Even if you can't take the bus to work, maybe you can do something else, like ride the bus between work and an errand like the drugstore. This way you are reducing your emissions and also supporting the solution. The bus system will see, "ridership is up 10% we should expand our routes" and then maybe you will get a bus route that is more helpful to you, between your home and office!
Let me know if you want to chat about this some more!
