Close Down Syndrome
I am single mom with three children, my 6 year old with Down syndrome. His health is good and he is high functioning. His language is where the situations are. He does not talk much. He makes sounds and gestures, and signs often with encouragement. He attends a typical daycare after school, however the school district has given me a challange in his placement.
Close Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Just joined here. Lets just list them shall we... Alcoholism in family, abuse as child, sexual abuse as child, end of a 17 year marriage with lots of verbal abuse, now single parent with a child who has downs syndrome.
Treatments
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Somewhat Helpful
- Had it for about 6 months after my divorce. Wasnt real sure at the time what was going on.
- Music Working / Worked
- Music is my outlet, without it I would be lost.
- Psychotherapy Working / Worked
- This helped me the most. On a regular basis for over a year. Still considering returning.
- Reading Working / Worked
- Works, helps me to understand.
- Serzone Working / Worked
- At the time it worked.
- Talking Working / Worked
- Yes of course this worked.
- Topamax Working / Worked
- this one also made me more anxious.
- Zoloft Working / Worked
- I hated this med. It made me more anxious
- Time Working / Worked
- I knew once I uderstood what was going on and why I was feeling the way I did and sometimes still do it would be ok. But that all takes time. Time to understand time to accept. I will always suffer from PTSD I just learn how to control my feelings.
Open Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
I found out three months ago that I suffer from IBS. I also have a bad gallbladder, ad gavaticulisis.(sp). Still learning and living in pain. I am hoping to find some support as my family just does not understand.
Treatments
- Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
- This is easier said than done.
- Chamomile Working / Worked
- It seems to be helping.
- Peppermint Working / Worked
- I notice that this not only helps my heartburn, but it seems to help my IBS a bit. I now am a peppermint gum chewing nut.

I just want to say hi. I just joined this discussion board. I was an AF wife for 17 years, and now I am a case manager with the Navy. I am the deployment, disaster, and relocation program manager. Not only do I feel I can offer some of my practical advice, but I also learn from you all. Open Dyspraxia & Apraxia
I have a 5 year old with Down syndrome. He currently on says words on demand. He bables a lot but know one understands him. His therapist is trying to determine if he has apraxia. I am still trying to learn what that is. The school he is in is insisting that he uses assistive tech, I am not sure if I even agree with that. I need to learn all I can about his speech delay.

Open Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
I have been suffering with OCD most of my life. About 6 years ago I began to have depression and anxiety. For the most part It is under control and I have not been under a drs care in several years. I have learned a lot of self help techniques to help. It is good to know I am not alone.
Open Endometriosis
I know I have Endometriosis, but the Drs won't do anything. Why is this. I also know that My IBS,Gavaticulisis and Gallbladder probs all relate to Endometriosis.
Open Single Parenting
Divorced,single mom. Three kids, two grown but still at home, grrr. One is 5 and has Down syndrome. No support from His dad, olde twos dad is ok, but out of state.
