Well I had an interesting day as I sat surrounded by a zealous mob of Catholics in DC today. We stood gathered together in a stadium holding 45,000. We had rather good seats, in the front row on the lower level along the 3rd baseline. Before the Mass began, the Pope drove around the perimeter, and when he passed us I was no more than 20 feet from him. It was an amazing experience expecially when we all stood holding hands singing the Lords prayer. The unison of voices through song, chant, and prayer was an overwhelming emotion that I cant describe. I had never seen so many people gathered of my faith in one place. Pope Benedict spoke about how this gathering was a renewal of our faith and to celebrate the church foundations. He also spoke of hope. A word I know all too well. Hope he said will guide us through darkness, it will lead us to salvation.
Some do not see the power of faith. Some do not believe in the power of the Pope, the power of religion or Catholicism. I witnessed this power today and will always see the Pope as the sheperd who leads our people on a path to God.
Enough zealous Catholic jargon. My other favorite part were the clergy with programs and caps on the heads to keep their heads from burning. Receiving communion was interesting. The choirs were amazing, there was the Papal Choir, the Gospel Choir, the International Choir, and the Childrens Choir. They were immaculate. Thats all for now.
Love to all my wonderful and glamorous friends :) Hope you all are well and enjoying this beautiful weather!

Oh Sarah, I know how much this day meant to you. So very happy you experienced it. I have no words. You know I'm Catholic, I share in your emotion. I would have definatly been overwhelmed. I'm so glad you hold your faith proudly and close to you. It makes you even more special.

I got goosebumps just reading your words about the Pope. Awesome that you had this experience. I was lucky to go to a Mass when I was in Italy last year for 3 months. I went to quite a few actually. I was raised Catholic (figues being Italian, right?) but I am not of that faith anymore..I do have a strong belief in GOD but I dont want to be labled into one specific religious group. I am more of a spiritualist I suppose. I had also about 7 or so family members who were at that Mass today. It feels good to hear him speak of HOPE, whether you're Catholic or not...it kinda helps to cleanse the soul..at least that's how I felt after his Mass. hugs to you glamour gurl...

You have had a once in a lifetime experience.. I am not catholic, and don't have much faith, so I cannot possibly know what this meant to you. So glad you had the opportunity. YAH..

My Dear Sarah :
"I am the truth," Jesus said and that means the gospel truth is not contained in a book, a creed or a law but in the living reality of the resurrected one. To see the gospel truth we must see Jesus. See him as he reaches out to those standing on the periphery. See him as his words of comfort, his actions of love bring healing and hope to the sick and impoverished. See him as he points a finger at hypocrisy and condemns injustice. This is the gospel truth. This is what I beleive the POPE saw and said to the thousands...and to You...Sarah !
