      DRAMA ADDICTION???

Posted on 06/30/08, 06:26 pmThis concept has been on my mind lately. I am a peace seeker and like serenity in my life. When there is drama it stresses me out yet I keep finding myself in the middle of drama, mostly here at DS. So I got curious and stumbled across an article about just that..Here's an excerpt."When someone feels a need to continually create drama in their lives and relationships, this is often a compensation for an underlying emptiness or depression in their lives. Often such people have not yet connected with their true life purpose or inner aliveness. In fact, they may only feel alive when they get that familiar adrenaline rush that lets them know they have created another messy situation. Other people who create dramatic relationships may have successfully dealt with other addictions and have transferred their need for excitement and intensity to relationships."From:http://www.soberrecovery.com/forum...

I think this is interesting and am keeping my eye out for that adrenaline rush... Although typically I get real down trodden when I become aware I've allowed myself to be drawn into drama. I hate that!!!

I want to get back to that place of seeking awareness, acceptance of what is and inner knowing and peace...

    • Close Codependency

Grew up in a dysfunctional, emotionally violent family. Mother was mentally ill. Am currently divorcing my Alcoholic husband. I have spent the past 7 yrs doing intensive recovery. I've done a lot of therapy, workshops etc... based on Pia melody's work. Love addiction and codependency. Have separated from husband for 3 years and am getting un-stuck so i can move on with my life.

      Treatments

12 Step Program Working / Worked
Alanon has saved my life. I have been involved for 20 years most actively involved for the past 7 yr. If you work it, it works. There is nothing more effective than Alanon! (in my opinion)
      Pets Working / Worked
It is so comforting to wake up at night, reach over and find a big ball of fluff that is always there and responds with a nuzzle and a loud purr. Yes it works
      Reading Working / Worked
Tons of books! Affirmation and recovery of every kind.
      Talking Working / Worked

      \"Codependent No More\" Working / Worked
Great book at the time. Helped me a lot. Now my favorite is "Facing codependence and breaking free" by Pia Melody.

      Couples Counseling Working / Worked
It takes 2 to make this work and each need to work on own issues before one can council with another.
      Forgiveness Working / Worked
Yes. Most importantly for me was understanding that "There are no Victims only volunteers"
      Leave Working / Worked
      Separated. Probably saved my life
      Love Working / Worked
Learning to come from a loving position is a powerful tool. It requires genuine sencerity and acceptance. Again being in the victim position will not allow one to progress with any tools.
