    About Me

I have IBS, and recently a bout with Gastritis and Gastroparisis. Here to help and also learn.

    Interests

I'm a very blessed person, despite the ucky IBS. I love spending time with family, friends, my pets. I enjoy reading, photography, hiking, movies...having a good time in general. I teach students with Special Needs. I adore my job, despite the paper work and red tape. The kids are amazing to me. I believe that God has given me challenges to better empathize with those who have disabilities

      From demia May 19

It's not just small town doctors that don't take IBS seriously. I've had it for years. Some days are better than others. I have such severe stomach aches sometimes, I have to walk to the bathroom with my hands on my knees. The pain is unbearable. I'm on Bentyl for spasms, and aciphex. I haven't tried the probiotics, but I keep hearing people say it's good.I would do anything to get rid of the gas in my gut. I understand, it does inpact someones life. Hugs!!!

    • Close Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Diagnosed with IBS (both kinds that vary back and forth) in college. Since I was a child I was sick at my stomach off and on. At 21 I lost my gall bladder. I've recently been diagnosed with gastritis and gastroparisis caused by the flu...which hasn't helped the IBS. I get frustrated with the doctors in my small town that don't really take IBS that seriously as something that impacts life. Had a lot of luck with doctors at UNC's Functional Disorders Clinic.

      Treatments

Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
I can't digest pork products at all. Very sensitive to chemicals, especially MSG and foods with a lot of preservatives. I try to eat fiber and love vegetables but they cause a lot of gas. I can't eat too much meat. Antibiotics tear me up and I try to take them in shot form only if I HAVE to have them. Caffeine, especially coffee hurts me. Carbonated beverages give me gas and chocolate (even though I indulge sometimes) hurt me some.
      Colace Working / Worked
      Only in "extreme" conditions
      Imodium Working / Worked
When the diarhea isn't that painful.
      Lomotil Working / Worked
When the diarhea gets painful or severe. Sometimes it throws me in the other direction.
      Miralax Working / Worked
Use as needed. I like that it doesn't give me cramps or gas. Sometimes it isn't enough or takes longer to work (or more doses) than stronger stuff.
      Probiotics Working / Worked
Helped with IBS for certain!!! Made sure you get Shaklee-it's the best. If you HAVE to buy it from a drug store get Culturelle. It's worth the money. There is a lot of crap out there to waste money on.
      BuSpar Working / Worked
This is sort of experimental. Buspar is an older SSRI antidepressent but the theory that what goes on in the brain with the serotonin goes on in the gut too. They didnt put me on it until I went to UNCChapel Hill because I wasnt getting any better at home. Its worked well...been on it three weeks. Its helping me get better gradually from the gastroparesis and definetly helped my IBS.
      Nexium Working / Worked
For Gastropareis and reflux. Works pretty well.
