I had a terrific weekend with my grandson Jordan.  It was Jordan's first time this far away from home so I wasn't sure if he would get so homesick that he wouldn't enjoy himself.

I wanted to show him all the places that meant so much to his Dad (my son David).  So now Jordan has a picture in his mind when David talks about things and places back here at home.  One thing I knew for sure that a boy his age would like was the ferry that runs from Dartmouth to Halifax.

It was a puring down rainy day ...blah!  Didn't matter, we went on the ferry and Jordan was in awe.  Soaking wet we went up on deck back and forth a few times and Jordan never got tired of it.  The look on his face was priceless.  I'm hoping Jordan can come back for longer in the summer when all the outdoors concerts are here.  Jordan has never seen the Buskers either so this is another thing that I want him to go to.

After taking around to many places that I knew would interest him we thought we'd go to his uncle Donnie's work and see if we could catch him for a minute before work.  So we sat outside the Restaurant were Donnie (my younger son) works as a cook.  No Donnie.  Finally I got a call...Donnie called...he had taken the day off so out we go to his house.  I knew this would be the most favorite part for Jordan.

Donnie plays in a punk rock band and most of his friend are all in that 'scene' too.  They all dress like punkers and all where their hair long, of many different colors,  and some in crazy styles.  Jordan loved it.  He got to play David's electric guitar hooked up to the amp and the sound blasted the house.   He got to see the sound proof room in the basement that is used as a band room and all the different kinds of instruments.

One of the room -mates grows a whole slew of herbs and spices (no, no pot!)  and Jordan was just fascinated with the different way that uncle Donnie lived compared to himself.  They don't have pictures up on the walls, instead the walls are all filled with giant size maps of different parts of the world.  I knew Jordan would love this part of his visit.

Donnie and his roommates have 3 dogs and the dogs all are full grown but they behave like children when company comes...so excited for the extra attention!  So there was lots and lots of licks and rubs and pats and Donnie didn't want the day to end either.  He came along with us  and the 4 of us finished up the day all together.

I guess I know I can't put all the details into my journal, it simply wouldn't be long enough.  But what I mentioned above was just a very small taste of the way our time went.  Before bedtimes Jordan looked where the rink was by our house but no games were happening then.  He saw the lake down the road and he wants to come back.

I wish we had a room for him but in this small apt. he had to sleep on the sofa.  So my fingers are sore now from all this typing  so I'll close for now.  I wish I could have put into words what a great time we all had...Me, Doug, Donnie, and Jordan.  Now, I'm exhausted!

Ahh, that is great :-) Don't worry about the size of your place, kids don't care where they sleep! At that age, I remember being in a sleeping bag on floors at sleepovers! You are blessed with a wonderful (and colourful!) family xox

Your weekend sounded like a lot of fun and joy. I can see the kid running up and down the stairs on the ferry, but I can't see Granny doing it too many times. HA HA. I hope when Jordan got home that he didn't expect his folks to do a life-style change. The kid didn't bring any of the colored hair paint home did he? HA HA. Girls, you worry about making comfortable. Boys, HA! Like Chrisnuk said, boys can sleep on the floor. It's like camping out. Glad things went great for you and your grandson. Do I call you Granny Ruth from now on? It's got a nice ring to it.

Yes Darrell, we had a great time. I couldn't see me doing that running up and down those ferry stairs too many times either...as you might have guessed, I slowly lagged behind. If I had let Jordan go home with that hair paint, David would have a fit! David is so much more straight laced than Donnie. Donnie is layed back and the 'free' type.

Funny that you and Chris mentioned Jordan sleeping on the floor, thats what he wanted to do. But Nanny couldn't have that...yes I know, Doug just shook his head at me.
