Seven Deadly sins: GLUTTONY
Derived from the Latin gluttire, meaning to gulp down or swallow, gluttony is the over-indulgence and over-consumption of anything to the point of waste. In the Christian religions, it is considered a sin because of the excessive desire for food, or its withholding from the needy.[2] Depending on the culture, it can be seen as either a vice or a sign of status. Where food is relatively scarce, being able to eat well might be something to take pride in (although this can also result in a moral backlash when confronted with the reality of those less fortunate). Where food is routinely plentiful, it may be considered a sign of self control to resist the temptation to over-indulge....
When one thinks of gluttony it is often paired with food. But gluttony is the over-indulgence and over-consumtopn of anything to the point of waste. Wowwooow. Dang do i waste...I've been trying to get better honestly. I try to unplug things when they are not in use and turn off lights when i leave the room. I try to take really quick showers and generally not waste food. But if you were to look in my refrigerator right now you would probably find fruit that should have been eaten a couple of days ago. Shame on me...When there are people out there starving.
Why are we so wasteful?
I think we don't really intentionally MEAN to be wasteful i mean when i bought those bananas i was SURE i was going to eat them before they went bad... I think we just get in the habit of being so unaware of things concerning waste that we just plain forget....i didn't expect myself to change overnight into this energy conserving freakazoid but I am getting so much better.
We take a lot of things for granted definitely. I guess the only thing we can do is just try to be more aware of the things we waste. With everything it takes practice...

DAY ONE OF THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMASi have the catholic …
Here's something that helps me not to be wasteful (other than not having the money to be wasteful): I've learned to buy food in season that was grown as close to me as possible. Yes, that means no bananas, but I just saw a terrible news story on 60 minutes about large banana companies (Chachita, Dole, and Del Monte) paying off the rebels of the bananas companies to protect their employees from being injured or killed. Sorry, I will never buy a banana again...
That said, I'm just waiting for summer for fresh food from my own land... I really do try not to waste, and if we're had the food a couple of days (leftovers), I feed them to the boyz outside for which they are mighty grateful! I think being mindful in all things helps eliminate waste... Love you! xoxoox Cj
