What happened at Dr. visit today Mood
Tuesday, July 22, 2008 | A Breaking News story

Went to the pain doc today, (7am this morning) . Seems that on my origional visit the nurse FAILED to list that I could not have cortisone or promethazine (sp) in my records. He showed me the records and it was not there. He apologized profusely and said the reason he wanted me to see the psychiatrist was for the severe anxiety that the cortisone had caused me. I told him that I had some xanax at home from a few months back and had taken some of that. He told me to double the dose and that the effects of the cortisone should be gone in a few more days. Well. I didn't tell him, but I had already doubled the dose and today I am almost back to normal. I actually had to take 3 of the .50 mg xanax to even sleep last night but I finally did sleep.  He made a huge notation on my chart and circled it so that would NEVER happen again. I bet that nurse is ina HUGE amount of trouble. He really is a great doctor, I can't be angry with him, it really was the nurses fault.  She failed to tell me why he wanted me to see the psychiatrist, she was not at all sympathetic to my situaton, she made it sound like the dr. thought I was nuts. That is the problem when you have to relay messages between the nurse to the doctor. Something always gets lost in the translation, especially when the nurse thinks she has the right to make judgements about the patients. She was the same nurse that assumed I was just trying to get pain meds and made that sarcastic comment to me. I know that there are a lot of people trying to manipulate the system but that still gave her no right to pass judgement on me and make assumptions like that.  I told him exactly how I felt about the whole situation and he was very sympathetic and assured me it would be handled and would not happen again.

Now, Aug. 6th I have to go back for 1 more block. This one will me more localized and hopefully the final one.  I have had very good relief except for the right hip and lower back and he says this last block should take care of that. There will be no more steroids in this one .

I am pretty much ok now that that cortisone is getting out of my system. The xanax really helped but it took way too much to counteract the effects of what that cortisone did to me. My blood pressure was 160/93( normal for me is 110/60)  still this morning and my blood sugars were up over 500 for several days and I was not even eating anything.

Thank you all again for your prayers b/c I am sure that is why I am doing so much better!  Love you all very much.

Rhonda

I don't think that nurse should even be employed. I hope he realizes she can only hurt his practice. I am so glad you are on the way to recovery. God still do'es work miracles. Love from Ginny

I am so glad to hear things are getting sorted out now with you and the xanax is helping you. I'm with everyone else on this, that nurse should not be employed by the doctor if she is going to fail putting information in patient's files. Good news for your pain diminishing, and hoping and praying the next block with be very helpful for the rest of your pain. Take care of yourself and I am keeping you in my prayers.
    Love,

That is great news that you have got the cortisone out of your system now and that the correct notation has been made on your chart for the future. I do not think I would want to be that nurse BTW. LOL. Hope that they next block does get rid of the rest of the pain.

I'm glad that you're starting to feel like your old self again. I do hope that the next block fixes you right up and does away with that hip and back pain for good. Some of the things we have to put up with in the medical field is enough to drive all of us over the edge at times. I hope no more mistakes are made that cause you unnecessary suffering Rhonda. Lots of love and big soft hugs. I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers hun. Love and Hugs, Debbie
