      I had 3 blood clots in my left leg in 1991. I was in the hospital for a week on heparin IV's and on oral Coumadin for a few months after that. I was not diagnosed with Factor V Leiden until 2006. In June 2006 I had surgery on both feet and had to inject Lovenox as a precaution, but thankfully, have not had any problems since 1991. I do have pretty bad venous insufficiency in my left leg, though.
