Just an update...
Thank goodness my insurance plan lets me self-refer...they actually called me (my plan changed January 1, 2008) and alerted me to the fact. SO, I went and self-referred to the bext vascular surgeon in my area and to an interventional readiologist.
I had the vascular surgeon appointment today...he reveiwed my initial doppler and confirmed my thought that what I had was actually superficial thrombophlebitis - even though my PCP keeps calling it DVT. The vascular surgeon set up another doppler for tomorrow (this group has their own building with a lab and veinous laser center) and follow up with him just after. I'll keep you all updated!
The vascular surgeon mentioned something about tapering off Coumadin if the results looked good. That being said, I disagree with my PCPs diagnosis BUT I am pleased with his aggressive treatment initially. However, he plans on having me on Coumadin for 9 months. If I don't need to be on Coumadin this long I'd rather not be...we all know it does have some level of risk. I've also got slightly elevated ALT (liver enzymes) which may be related to Coumadin or Lovenox. This week is a big week...vascular surgeon, hemetologist (hopefully most/all of the genetic panel is done), and follow up liver panel bloodwork all in one week. Lots going on and it's all interdependent.
Thanks for listening - this group is fantastic.
