The Concerta seems to be a big help with our son. Eating regularly seems to be the ticket to avoiding stomach aches and dizziness. Now that he can focus, the sky seems to be the limit as to his abilities! I've read that some children with ADHD are gifted but that no one could tell until they were on meds. and they could finally focus, once they could, sky is the limit! I have an appointment at Kaiser next week reguarding our youngest daughter for ADHD. She was at the same level as all the other kids in the class when Kindergarten began, now, Kindergarten is almost over, they have been taught a lot and they have progressed, but my 5 year old daughter has not. She can be disruptive in class and has dificulty completing her work, but her biggest struggle is being able to pay attention enough to learn and remember. She's always been extroverted, but recently she's becoming a little shy and sad. I know where that road goes so the psychiatrist said that she could be on the same road as her brother and recieving treatment as soon as 3 weeks. I just think it's sad that because we now know what we know, she's getting help early, as her brother was not so lucky... All I can say is that I'm so sorry...
So glad that all is going well with your son.
Hope you get the help you need with your daughter.
Your daughter may not seem as though she is learning but she may be taking it all in. Just may not be able to relay all that info. Just a possibility.
Randall had his IQ test before he started on meds, but his behaviour wasn't that bad then.
We were only discussing how Randall was going today off his meds. He is certinly no worse, and we both think that his memory is generally better. The problems that we seem to have with him now are more related to him hitting puberty than anything else. So maybe he had learnt to deal with things himself now.
Thinking of you.

The sky really is the limit with anyone who has disabilities. I know how life is with ADHD. My oldest has PDD/ADHD and is normal on his meds. The other kids really don't know he has issues. Once they can focus, then it's natural they use all the intelligence they really do have. The trick is to get it on paper. My son has not so great writing and reading skills. He is improving and he never quits. He knows he can do anything if we stays with it and works at it. Hang in there. You are doing the right thing. Remember, we are only responsible for what we know. You didn't know until recently with your son. The main thing is he is getting help. It's never too late.

That is so great, things have come so far. It's sad you had to work so hard to find an answer, but you finally found it and you should be proud of your fighting it out! congrats!

You do what you do when you can... you didn't know, and now he's getting help. He'll be fine.
She's getting help sooner... he helped her get help!
They're gonna be OK, really... people are pretty resilient. Just keep an eye on their cardiac development now that they're on stims. It's a good idea to get an EKG from time to time, and watch their blood pressure, to make sure that they don't suffer from the bad side effects. It's not likely that they will, but it is a remote possibility. Better to know, eh?

amazing to know Concerta can work so well, I agree with Armchair Deity, in that she is getting help sooner because of him, and he will be proud of that...:) lots of love to you...Cathrynn XX

I can't tell you how moving and wonderful your story has been. I have been telling your story to my older sister all this time (she's the teacher who sometimes teaches the special ed kids) She went from stomping around the house yelling "she should sue", she should sue!" to our both being so touched that your son is finally doing so well. I'm betting your daughter is just as smart (if not smarter) than your son and soon will be on her way to showing it again.
Hugs
