Me in the Box Mood
Wednesday, March 26, 2008

ok, I just got chastised for not starting a journal.  Thing is, I am a bit self concious, so I basically believe I SUCK at these things.  I am also not that self-introspective anymore...hahaha

in 1990, I hit a small boulder head first going 45 mph.  I was on a 12 speed bike going down hill when a car ran me off the road on purpose.  He was honking his horn and swerving at me, playign lets mess wiht the bike rider.  I lay in the road for 45 min, (on a Sunday, no less) until a 7 year odl little girl came along and found me.  She went home and said "Mommy, come see the dead man!"  "Mommy" called the ambulance company, who picked me up an hour after my crash (we figure).

I was dead for three minutes at the hospital.

Since then, I have re-learned how to walk, talk, eat, drink, and think.  My left eye is closed (nerve damage), and I can no longer paint, draw, or play guitar like I used to.  I have short term emeory issues to this day (I wirte things down alot), am slightly numb on the left side of my body, and fight a daily struggle to maintain emotional stability and calm reasoning.

Part of my Voc Rehab was testing, and it turned out I have aptitudes in Nursing/Therapy.  They paid for me to become aCertified Nurses Aid.  Since then, I have studied Phelbotomy, and worked my way into becoming a Rehab Therapy Technician.  I also have developed and run an Animal Assisted Therapy Program in the hospital I work in.

I have my down days just like I have my up days.  Just like you.  Some things I will work with, struggle with, all my life.  That IS life.  I do the BEST I can do every day, in every situation, and move on.  I hope and work to make sure that the following day, I do it better.

Good job, that wasn't so hard was it? I have been in two bad wrecks, but I just came out with crushed knees and a couple of broken ribs. I was accused today of mailing some really rude comments to another member. I didn;t do it, they weren't my words. Is that possible? It was at 5:30 in the morning too. I am not a early morning person! I go to bed about 1:00 or 2:00. This is weird and unsettling!

Thanks for sharing. It is so wonderful that you have become a therapy Technician. I am sure those you help really appreciate your perspective; You have been there and have found ways to overcome and make a difference.
