Journal Entry for July 17, 2008 Mood
Thursday, July 17, 2008

I had great session with Bob, yesterday.  Last, Tuesday I saw my doctor and the infection lingers, a stubborn monstrosity that refuses to heal, probably because of the cancer.  She referred me to a Wound Clinic on the 22nd.  I’ve never even heard of a Wound Clinic and can’t imagine what they might do that my doctor hasn’t already done.  She said she would arrange for me to see a female doctor there—that’s cool.  I’ve been put on yet another 8 days of antibiotics, which concerns me.  I‘ve been on different antibiotics now for 24 days.  I read somewhere that too much use of that drug renders it impotent.  They have helped, to be sure, but not taken care of the problem completely. It keeps deviously flaring up.   It’s definitely getting old.

Last Tuesday as I was working on a device that exercises the arms only, I was lip reading the exercise specialist, a recent graduate, and a young man doing is internship in nursing, I think.  Both are around 24 and a Hollywood handsome couple.  I think they have taken a shine to each other.  At any rate, I was “listening “in on them.  They were only five feet from me, but they know that I don’t wear my hearing aids when exercising.    They were talking about a situation they were in and I started laughing, hysterically, to the point of tears.  Heidi asked if I understood them.  Yes, I said, hardly able to control myself—they both blushed.  After that, they covered their mouths when talking and I continued to laugh, couldn’t stop.  Nurse Mary asked what was so funny, and I told her she would have to ask Heidi and the young man, don’t remember his name.   She did, but did not get an answer, which caused me to laugh even harder.

In spite of the infection, I’m in high spirits and expect to have another good workout at rehab.  Hmmm, I wonder if that young couple will speak in a manner that hides their lips from me.  I intend to tease them today, have a bit of fun with them:  am I naughty old man or what?

I wish you all a great day; you’re a super bunch.

is that not rude to lip read people or listen in on other peoples conversations. and then im sure that laughing was not appropriate. i thought you were a better person than that...cause you are just as bad as the rest of the world

I just returned from cardiac rehab. Heidi and the young man I mentioned played a good trick on me. They were sitting at the desk and computer like always when I’m working on the device for exercising the arms. They were just waiting for me to look up and eavesdrop on them. They smiled then simultaneously covered their mouths with homemade paper made fans. I laughed, of course, and told them that that was not fair. They pointed behind me.

I looked, and all the other patients plus Nurse Mary had homemade fans covering their mouths. Needless to say, the entire group laughed—servers me right.

It was a great day at rehab. Nurse Mary gave me a bunch of grapes and a couple apples for having an exception week at rehab—she is such a sweetheart.

I reckon I’ll go to the park and read for a spell, maybe interact with someone, then head out to the trial and commune with nature.

Garrett, that sounds like a wonderful time. I always wanted to be able to listen in on folks. Oh, the things you must 'hear'. Then again, I'm sure there is quite a bit I wouldn't want to know. I'm glad they got a little bit of revenge!!!

I wish I knew you in person. You are just a hoot. There is never a dull moment around you...I am curious...you mention in a lot of journal entry's that you go to the park to read a lot. What types of books are you interested in. I like to read a lot too, but unlike you, I hide behind my books where I read that you truely try to make conversation with people at the park. Thanks for the laugh today. You are definately a sweetie!
