    About Me

I joined this community because I lost my dad in July 2004 to pancreatic cancer. Though it was almost 4 years ago, it still affects me tremendously and I miss him more every day. This past May I graduated from the University of Connecticut...now I'm part of the "real world"!

    Interests

My name is Stephanie. I enjoy scrapbooking, drawing, sleeping, shopping, talking, listening to music, watching tv, mint chocolate chip ice cream...actually, make that any kind of ice cream...baking and eating anything sweet and generally try to love life ♥ My mom, younger sister, 2 dogs and cat are my world. I love them more than anything! I also recently started hitting the gym. It makes me feel accomplished and healthier. And, as a plus, I've toned up and lost 15 pounds.

    • Close Pancreatic Cancer

I lost my dad to pancreatic cancer in July 2004, when I was 17. He passed away just 5 weeks after his official diagnosis. He tried chemotherapy but that did more harm than good. So he decided to stop all treatments and that was it. I was by his side when he died. 3 1/2 years later, the the pain of losing him is still very much with me.

      Treatments

      Crying Working / Worked
Usually makes me feel better, allows me to get my feelings out.

      Type: Loss of a Parent

I lost my dad to pancreatic cancer in July 2004. It's been a challenge...just hoping to meet some people who have also experienced the loss of a parent. Also, I lost my grandma and great-aunt (both on dad's side) the following year. I'm left with only one aunt and an estranged half brother, both of whom I have little contact with. I really have no one on that side of my family.

      Treatments

      Crying Working / Worked
      Getting Angry Working / Worked
      Keeping Busy Somewhat Helpful
      Music Somewhat Helpful
Certain songs remind me of my Dad, which can be really comforting. Other sad songs let me cry my emotions out. Faster, upbeat songs allow me to dance like no one's watching.
      Pets Working / Worked
My babies are always there to talk to, play with and cuddle with.
      Remembering Working / Worked
Sometimes this makes me feel 100% better, and other times it makes me completely angry. Remembering good times may be a good thing, but I get angry that I can't have more.
Support from Friends & Family Somewhat Helpful
Mom and sister are always there to lean on. Most of the time talking to them makes me feel better, though sometimes they just don't understand how/what I'm feeling.
      Talking Somewhat Helpful
      Time Not Working
Those who say time heals all wounds are completely wrong.
