Hi cCBrad, yes I do have a captel phone, I've had it for a while now, before that I had a phone where the captioner told the person on the other end that the caller is deaf, but with the captel you talk to the caller in person the captioner only types out what is going on during the call they do no speaking, you do it for yourself. It's a blessing, but I find I have a hard time keeping up with the captions because of course it has a delay in conversation because the captioner has to wait untill the word is spoken before it can be typed so I find myself having to interrupt the other party in order to tell her to repeat and give me a second to read before I answer. I think it gets a little frustrated. Now I think it works better if you have some hearing because you turn up the volume and you can hear and read the caption, but I find it hard to talk on the phone and not be able to hear out of the reciever. I don't think I know about ASL could you tell me about this. Also with the captel phone you can get your own phone line with your own phone # so people can call you. The phone has a answering machine also. It sounds as if you would be able to get one if your hearing is as bad as it sounds to me. You could probably do better than me, I didn't go deaf slowly mine happened suddenly and I have been thrown in a tailspin. I also understand how hard it must be for you, I'm amazed you can still function in a work enviroment. Do you have tinnitus also? I could better function without all this horrible noise it interferes with my implant to where the audiologist can't program it to where I get clarity and the speech I hear is blurred and scratchy makes me shutter to try to listen but when the tinnitus lowers I do a little better but it never is good. Thanks for writing back tell me about the video camer and how it all works. I hope I haven't confused you about the captel phone just let me know if you have questions and I'll tyr to answer.
