    About Me

Autumn is my favorite season. I love rum and cokes. Vietnamese noodle soup is the solution for any bad (or good) day. My niece is the cutest baby ever. I'm not a picky eater - my digestive system is. Alcohol = bed time. I'm allergic to my cat, but love her anyways. I get silly when I'm tired.

    Interests

Outdoors, camping, wheeling, web design, cross-stitching

    • Close Asthma
      Type: Cough Variant Asthma

I was recently diagnosed with asthma after having bronchitis in April 2007. Although I have daily symptoms, it really only seems to bother me when I have a cold or illness.

      Treatments

      Inhaler Working / Worked
I use Combivent daily and it works great. When my symptoms are low, I only need two puffs in the morning.
      QVAR Working / Worked
It worked great for helping me get over my asthma. Did not seem to help when I got a cold 6 months later.
    • Close Miscarriage

I discovered I was pregnant on January 10, 2007 and lost the baby 8 days later. I was only 6 weeks, but the entire experience has changed my life.

      Treatments

      Psychotherapy Not Working
I tried counseling for a while, but did not see any improvement.
    • Open Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

I have always felt the need to have things clean and 'perfect'. I always assumed I had a mild form of OCD, but have recently discovered it might be OCPD. Unfortuantely, there's not really a big OCPD community on DailyStrengh, and a lot of people in this community have the same symptoms as me. Unfortunately, I cannot get diagnosed due to lack of medical coverage.

    • Open Diets & Weight Maintenance

I've been slightly overweight all my life, but it never qualified me as "obese" on the charts until this year. I'm 5'2" and 170 lbs, and would love to lose enough weight to be at a healthy point.

      Treatments

Counting Calories Too Soon to Tell
I've tried counting calories in the past, but have been miserable so I'm going to make an earnest attempt to start logging my foods and calories.
Eating Healthier Foods Working / Worked
Due to previously having IBS, I natural gravitate towards heathier foods - although it's been harder and harder lately.
Physical Exercise Too Soon to Tell
Another goal of mine = maintain a regular fitness regime. I have a gym membership so it will be pushing myself to go more often.
      Slim-Fast Somewhat Helpful
They didn't make me gain any weight, but I didn't notice any weight loss.
      Weight Watchers Not Working
I've tried WW in the past, but have been unable to keep up with the program (and costs).
    • Open Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

I was diagnosed with IBS-C in 2001 after having extreme cramps that would cause me to faint, followed by diarrhea. Found a wonderful diet (HelpForIBS.com) that I believe helped get my IBS under control to where I no longer have daily attacks. I still have some food triggers and the occasional IBS attack, but am overall symptom-free.

      Treatments

Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
I quickly discovered which certain foods I needed to avoid (fried, greasy, red meat, dairy, etc.) and their connection to my IBS.
      Bentyl Not Working
This did not help at all.
      Imodium Somewhat Helpful
Imodium works great if I absolutely cannot have an attack somewhere. Unfortuantely, since I'm IBS-C, it makes me even more constipated.
      Levsin Working / Worked
This is the wonder drug of calming stomach spasms for me.
      Peppermint Working / Worked
This has been a life saver when I'm out near coffee shops - they all have peppermint tea!
      Probiotics Not Working
Some people I know swear by these, but I never noticed any difference with mine.
      Psyllium Not Working
Was too harsh for my digestive system.
