Oh my Goodness!!!!!!!  I had to take Cole to the emergency room today!!!!

Cole was leaning back in his chair in class (like he knows he is not supposed to) and lost his balance.  When he fell he had a pencil in his hand and it stabbed into his neck.  It was pretty deep!  The school called me at 1:50pm and I rushed over there with Clay.  The office lady said it wasn't too bad, and probably didn't even warrant a call to the doctor.  So I went to his classroom and he was there crying very hard!  He had a tissue held to his neck, it was still bleeding.  I looked at it and it looked pretty deep to me.   The teacher (a sub) said she didn't think it was too bad and that the doctor's office probably wouldn't do anything anyway.  Well I looked at it more carefully and I thought it looked pretty deep!  So I called his pediatrician and they said that I should bring him to the emergency room.  So I took him over to the medi-center and after waiting for 3 hours the doctor there at first said oh just keep an eye on it, make sure it doesn't get infected and it should heal up just fine.  But then for some reason he decided to take another look at it.  He used a Q-tip handle and probed around to see how deep it was, and it was a good half in deep!  So he went out of the room for a few minutes, I could hear him talking on the phone to someone, it was another doctor and that doctor wanted to see him.  So he came back in and said to make sure nothing was damaged too badly in there since there are all kinds of arteries and nerves etc going through that area they wanted to see him at the emergency room at a different hospital to do a CT scan and get another doctor's opinion. 

So I called my Dad and asked him to take Clay because I knew this would take a while.  I dropped Clay off with my Dad and took Cole over to the other hospital's emergency room.  They were expecting us and fast tracked us through to a room.  They put and IV in and did a CT scan to take pictures of the area and that turned out fine.  They did give him one stitch to keep it closed and sent us on our way.  Now that all sounds quick, but we were there for 2 1/2 hours! 

I am so proud of Cole!  He did so well at both places!  He sat very still and let them probe and look around all they needed, he didn't move when they put the IV in and he only cried a little, very quietly when the needle went in.  He cried a little cause he was nervous that the stitch was going to hurt, but held very still so the doctor could put it in.  He is my brave, brave little man!  All the nurses were so surprised and appreciative that he was so good!

We got out of the hospital at 7:45pm!  I took Cole to McDonald's for dinner, and then we went to pick up Clay from my Dad's house.   We are finally home now!!

SCARY!!!  But it all worked out good so...
