    About Me

I am a 38 year old female with dwarfism, (3'9") and End Stage Renal Disease which I just got diagnosed with a year ago this month. I will be on hemo dialysis (my choice of treatment) for the rest of my life. I also had scoliosis and had a spinal rod fusion done in 1983. I also battle depression and take 1 medication for depression. I am still working but am now in the process of getting approved for early medical retirement. At first, I did not want to quit work but as the year has passed, it is getting harder and harder on me just to get up each day due to staying fatigued from the kidney disease and the dialysis treatments. Anyway, that is my intro.......any questions? LOL *smile* Tammy

    Interests

I like to surf the net learning all I can about kidney disease, and joining other groups online with similar interests/diagnosis. I like to watch Court TV, DHC, TLC, Cops, AMW, VH-1. I also have 2 beautiful cats that I absolutely love, they sometimes are the only reasons I get up when I do.

    • Open Bereavement
      Type: Loss of a Parent

I loss my dear Mama 6 years ago, March 2001.

      Treatments

      Crying Somewhat Helpful
Crying to friends helps me better than "paying" a counselor to listen to me because a friend cares if you are hurting, a therapist could careless and will sleep that nite anyways, if you were to blow your head off and a friend would feel hurt if you were to hurt/kill yourself. Therapists are just doing their "job". I have had very bad experiences with "therapists"
      Getting Angry Somewhat Helpful
I sometimes yell in my car as loud as I can, then I might cry or I might laugh at myself.
      Grief Counseling Not Working
      NEVER WORKED!
      Helping Others Somewhat Helpful
I did try volunteer work twice but it just did not do much for me.
      Keeping Busy Working / Worked
I am still working for the time being.
      Music Not Working
Most music depresses me especially the old country music that my Mama and I use to sing together with me standing right beside her in the car (before car seats).
      Pets Working / Worked
I have 2 beautiful cats and they are a tremendous help and very comforting and sometimes they are so funny and make me laugh but they also are very "sociable" cats, they like to be in the same room with their "Mommy".
      Prayer Somewhat Helpful
Yes, prayer does help if I would just pray MORE!
Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
I have had more support from friends and co-workers than I have had from family. I really do not consider myself to have any family close by me.
      Talking Working / Worked
Talking usually always helps me unless I feel I am keeping the person on the line too long, then I feel like crap for "holding them up" from something.
      Time Somewhat Helpful
Yes, time has helped some; however, they are still days, I walk around with a lump in my throat.
    • Open Scoliosis

      Treatments

      Brace Somewhat Helpful
I wore 3 different types of braces from age 6 to 13.
      Harrington Rods Working / Worked
I still after 25 years, have the harrington rods in my back

    • Open Depression
      Type: Seasonal Affective Disorder

      Treatments

      Seroquel Working / Worked
      works most of the time
    • Open Epilepsy & Seizures

I had my first seizure that I know of, in 1991 and then another one in 1999. However, lately I have been having them more often and even had one in my car and crossed 5 lanes of traffic and I am soooo very lucky I did not kill myself or anyone else but needless to say, they suspended my license and I have to be "seizure free" for 6 months before I can get my license but I am alright with that really because I know it is in my best interest as well as everyone else's best interest.

      Treatments

      Dilantin Somewhat Helpful
I was on Dilantin for a while but they eventually took me off of it, which I was glad because I have since learned Dilantin is bad on your gums.
      Lamictal Somewhat Helpful
I have been on lamictal for quite sometime but I know why I have been having seizures, my dumb A@# got addicted to damn Xanax and those are HORRIBLE and you cannot get off of them unless you wean yourself off of them or you go into a hospital/rehab and you go through being detoxed off of them. ESPECIALLY if you are already prone to having seizures. So hear me out!!!! DO NOT GET HOOKED ON XANAX!!!!
    • Open Prescription Drug Abuse

I would like to join this group as I am addicted to prescription pills. I am really relieved that there IS this group because I have been wanting to find a group like this for a while now. My DOC (now) is Xanax, it use to be hydros. but I seem to be getting away from those and do not seem to getting "dope sick" as I use too. I too, have been in rehab. twice for the hydros and did relapse after 10 mos. both times and then somehow got addicted to Xanax.

      Treatments

      Narcotics Anonymous (NA) Not Working
I am not going to NA anymore; but I did try it a couple of times when I first got out rehab. and I personally thought it SUCKED!!
