About Me
I am a 57 year-old widow. I have HepC and a myriad of back problems. Well, now I've been through a year of therapy for Hep C and didn't clear viris. I'll have to wait for another med to come out I guess. I'm now retired (on disability) and bored. My back is in horrible shape. So between the HepC and back problems, I can't do much. I garden a little, but it gets to my back. I read, but the meds make it so I don't comprehend what I'm reading! Frustrating.
Interests
Gardening, internet, music, movies and my family. I have 3 kids and 4 grandkids. They make my life worthwhile no matter how sick I get or how much pain I am in. They are always there for me.

Support Groups
Close Hepatitis C
I was diagnosed this year, have been on treatment almost 3 months. Very sick at first, but great now. I am trying to get strength enough to start a support group in Reno. There aren't any there. People need this. I was quite ignorant until I found out I had Hep C. Resources are needed and training for people that need it.
Treatments
- Interferon, pegylated Working / Worked
- It has taken me 3 months to give myself shots without hesitation. It would take 30 minutes for me to get guts enough to stick that needle in myself!
- Ribavarin Working / Worked
- This drug caused a lot of side effects for me. So, so sick in the beginning. My body adjusted and I'm feeling great.
Close Degenerative Disc Disease
I was injured in a car accident in 1978. I was 28 then and the doctors all said that a person my age couldn't possibly have back pain. They thought I just wanted drugs. My back injury went years untreated. It just got worse and worse until eventually I was hospitalized with the pain. I have been in the hospital 7 times, a back surgery for fusion, physical therapy and now pain management. I am now on disability because of it. Topping this, I was in another accident 5/27/07.
Treatments
- Methadone Somewhat Helpful
- I guess Ive been taking methadone too long. Starting not to work so they keep increasing my dose. It scares me because I have Hep C and drugs stay in your liver.
- Oxycodone Working / Worked
- I started taking this a couple of months ago. It helps with breakthrough pain but not much for long acting.
