My son, Allan just turned 9 on 11/14. He had his first seizure on 3/17/04. It was completely "out of the blue". I had a normal pregnancy & birth, no develpmental problems. His first seizure started in his left arm & have progressed from there. He has went into status elepticus. He has had a near drowning. He has major behavior problems, and severely underweight. We had a G-tube placed in him so he will at least get some nourishment. He now averages 3-5 p/week.

      Treatments

      Ativan Somewhat Helpful
used this during status elepticus and when his "drooling" seizures were 15 minutes a part. Worked majority of the time
      Depakote Working / Worked
Currently on this in combo with Topomas and Lamictal. Has been on Depakote from the beginning. Only combo that has given him some control (3-5 p/week)
      Diastat Somewhat Helpful
Also used this when his "drooling" seizures were 15 mins apart. Not as effective as the ativan.
      Dilantin Not Working
This was also given to him in the hosp when they were playing with the medication to gain better control.
      Keppra Not Working
One of the first meds given in combo with Depakote. My son, was developing major behavior issues. The Dr was concerned this med was the cause so he stopped this med.
      Lamictal Working / Worked
Currently on this med in combo with Depakote and Topomax. This combo offered the best control so far (3-5 p/week)
      Phenobarbital Somewhat Helpful
Was given this in the hospital to stabilize and try different combination
      Tegretol Not Working
One of the first meds that was given, didn't seem to offer much control. In combo with Depakote
      Topamax Working / Worked
Currently on this in combo with Depakote and Lamictal. Only combo that has given him some control (3-5 p/week).
      Trileptal Not Working
My son was given this about halfway thru his treatment. Didn't seem to improve.
      Zonegran Somewhat Helpful
Can't say it helped too much. He was averaging 5-7 with this combo.
