Hi again, From what you're describing, I'd say that what you're experiencing are auras and complex-partial seizures your speech center area. Mine are located there too, although they have generalized to the whole brain a few times. Mind you, I have seizure activity on both sides of my brain. When I first started, they seemed to be mostly on the right side, so I was getting a lot of deja-vu effect. I think what happened is that after a while I developed a second focus on the left side (that's called "mirroring"), and it started to affect my speech. Originally, I could muddle my way through a seizure, and people might not even realize that something was amiss. Eventually though, I became unable to speak at all while it was happening, although I could usually understand what others were saying to me. Right now, my drugs are working pretty well for me, so that although I still have a few short seizures pretty well every day, they just sort of scramble my thinking for a few seconds, and then I need to re-centre myself. I did have one very bad generalized seizure a few years ago, and it's after-effects were pretty frightening. When I regained consciousness in the hospital, I could'nt speak at all. That lasted for about 24hrs. and then it started coming back, but for the NEXT 24hrs. my sentences were coming out totally reversed. It took about four days for things to get totally back to normal, so I can understand what you're going through when you have that sort of thing happen. I've also had a lot of times when I could neither understand speech, or find the words to respond. Other times, I may speak, but not really be "there", so that my responses to questions are inappropriate..(like I'll say "no" to my husband if he asks me if I'm having a seizure, while it's pretty obviuous that I AM) Like I told you, that's not uncommon for people whose focus is on the left side. What concerns me though about what you described, is that yoyu seem to get worse after it's been going on for a while. That sounds like the seizure is spreading to a larger area of the brain. Make sure that you let the doctor know about that when you see him/her. Hormones definitely affect things. Most women I've met say that they have a lot more activity prior to their periods. I'm past that now, but I definitely experienced that too. I'm so sorry to hear about your fiance, but if he could'nt support you through this, then maybe it's better to have him out of your life sooner rather than later. I'm glad that you have others to help you out right now, and DS support can help a lot too. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you need someone to listen or help out in any way. And please don't feel that you're crazy in any way. A lot of times what we feel when we seizure can make us wonder if there is'nt something like that going on, but it definitely is'nt. Also, one of the biggest problems that people with epilepsy can have is depression, so do anything you can to stay out of that. Take care, Linda
