A very happy day to you! I hope it’s filled with activities that bring you some joy. One of my passions is taking “movies” while diving and I was lucky enough to snorkel Jellyfish Lake in Palau where you can swim with jellyfish that don’t sting! Here’s a short video of the adventure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gl6...

Close Arnold-Chiari Malformation
I was just recently officially diagnosed with a Chiari Malformation after struggling with dibilitating headaches (and other related issues) since June of 2006. Doctors believe that it is not my problem.
Treatments
- Chiropractic Adjustment Not Working
- It didn't help at all. As a matter of fact, I personally would not reccommend it to anyone. I saw 2 different Chiropractors. I always hurt worse afterwards, and it seems as though the headaches got worse once I started seeing them.
Close Hydrocephalus
I am 21 years old and have been battling NPH for over 2 years now. I have had a Lumbar Shunt. After 8 surgeries and over 1 month in the hospital, I no longer have the shunt. I am still battling the doctors to do something about it.
Treatments
- Acetazolamide Not Working
- It didn't work in the beginning to get my pressures down. It ultimately led to me having the Lumbar shunt placed last February.
- Shunts Working / Worked
- Worked for about a month, then I developed a spinal leak, and had 7 more surgeries to try and correct it. I contracted MRSA in June, and the decision was made to remove the shunt altogether.
Open Anxiety
I had been treated only for depression until just recently when my new Psych diagnosed Anxiety.
Treatments
- Ativan Working / Worked
- It helped me to sleep the few times I took it.Got scared of the possibilty of forming an addiction to it,so stopped taking it.
- BuSpar Working / Worked
- I believe it has given me more energy, and it seems to be helping my Wellbutrin to work better.
- Hypnotherapy Not Working
- I was a little taken aback when one of my recent counselors tried this.It only made me more uncomfortable.
- Inderal Not Working
- I was given this for my headaches. It didn't work.
- Lexapro Working / Worked
- I used to take this a couple years ago.Tried to take it again after being off of it for about 6 months. It kept me up at night and didn't help with the depression.
- Positive Thinking Considering
- This is a hard thing for me to master.I am the oldest child: this means that I try to be a perfectionist,so it can get pretty stressful at times.I think I expect too much of myself.
Open Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
I never thought I would have this. After this last year and 8 major surgeries, contracting MRSA,and being in the hospital for 1 1/2 months,I now believe this is what is hindering my progress.Although, I am doing better than I was a month or even 3 months ago.
Treatments
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Working / Worked
- My counselor helps me to do this when I am thinking really regatively. It has been awesome!
- Effexor Working / Worked
- Worked, but was too expensive and it caused extreme drowsiness.
- Music Working / Worked
- I listen to music quite frequently when I am upset.I like to take drives with the music blasting. Can't wait until summer when I can actually drive into the mountains without fearing for my life!
- Psychotherapy Working / Worked
- My first couselor was great to talk to,but didn't really help too much.My second counselor was a disaster. And the one I have now is AMAZING! I love her to death. She really helps me to see the good in every situation.
- Reading Working / Worked
- Takes my mind off things for a short while.
- Seroquel Working / Worked
- Worked, but the dr thought it might have been causing my facial tics and stuttering. It wasn't the problem, but still don't take it anymore.
- Talking Working / Worked
- This is really nice to be able to do. I find that my friends here are DS are always saving me as all my friends have gone off on their own.
- Topamax Working / Worked
- Was actually put in this several times for my headaches. It didn't work and was too expensive.
- Prozac Not Working
- This is the drug that landed me in the Behavioral Health Center in other words the hospitals funny farm. It was a disaster.I went voluntairly...dont know what I was thinking!
Open Chronic Pain
I have been dealing with chronic neck/shoulder pain ever since I can remember. I am not sure why other than the fact that I seem to be so tense all the time. I won't take muscle relaxers anymore as my body tends to become dependant on them. I just wish I could not be so tense.
Treatments
- Chiropractic Adjustment Not Working
- This made me hurt worse.
- Cymbalta Not Working
- It was for my depression, didn't do anything for the pain.
- Flexeril Working / Worked
- This helps but, I have to take it a lot and it makes me tired. Helps me to sleep.
- Heat Somewhat Helpful
- I use this a lot to try and calm my tense muslces. Sometimes it works.
- Hydrocodone Not Working
- This stuff doesn't do crap for me anymore. I had way too many surgeries last year and don't respond to many pain killers.
- Morphine Not Working
- I am very allergic to this. It gives me horrible headaches.
- Naproxen Somewhat Helpful
- I have been using this for a really long time now. I am starting to worry that it is hurting my stomach. About 2 hours after I take it, I feel like I have been punched in the gut.
- Oxycodone Not Working
- Gave me seizures/jerks and nightmares. Will never use again.
- Physical Therapy Working / Worked
- It helps when I am doing it, but then I just tense right back up again.
- TENS Working / Worked
- I LOVE TENS, but unfortunately, cannot afford it.
- Topamax Not Working
- I was on this for headaches. It didn't seem to do anything but give me tingly hands and feet.
Open Fibromyalgia
I am joining this group for my mother and a few other friends that I know who have Fibro. I don't understand it, but I am trying to learn more about it as they are now saying it runs in families, and I deal with a great deal of pain on a daily basis.
Open COPD & Emphysema
My grandfather has this, and my father will almost certainly have it. I am joining to learn more so that maybe I can help them.
Open Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
I have to have my clothes in order from long sleeve, to button up, to t-shirts. I have to order them in rainbow order; red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple. I HAVE to wash my hands after grocery shopping (those carts are nasty!) I always lock my car doors while I am driving. I can't spend a lot of time in my room unless the bed is made and things aren't strewn around on the floor. The list can go on!
