I've had these persistent thoughts lately about trying to write a poem about masks. Here are just some of the thoughts that I've had. If anyone reads this and wants to add to it or even take it and run with it on their own - feel free. I'm not really a very good poet. LOL
For so much of my life I've stayed hidden behind masks.
Masks of confidence to show defiance to the world
Masks of happiness to pretend everything's ok
Sometimes even masks of ignorance to avoid the pain.
Slowly now I am beginning to unmask myself
I can express my pain and still be happy.
I can show my fear and still be confident.
Day by day, one more layer of the masks come off.
