How long can I fight? Mood
Tuesday, August 19, 2008
Do you ever feel like when you are really trying your hardest to stay positive and happy, that the depression monster keeps throwing everything it's got at you. I am really fighting right now to stay positive and it seems like every time i turn around something else hits the fan. How long can you just say "oh well, that's ok. No big deal" before you finally just say WTF?!

I am going to crawl back in my hole now.

I'm with you - wait it out for a bit... When you're rested, you'll be able to sort out what's what.

How long? We'll just keep hammering at it until we get it right, while never really expecting to ever get it right. Let's not crqwl back inot our holes too deeply, nor for too long, though, okay? :)

Confessions of An Educated Snob Mood
Tuesday, August 19, 2008 | A Funny story

Ok, I like to think I am very liberal and open-minded. I truly think of myself as someone who is not biased or judgmental of others. I accept most people regardless of their culture, color, etc...

But I am confessing now to being a snob against stupid people. I do not mean uneducated - that is something that can be fixed. I mean people who refuse to use the knowledge they should have. Mostly the thing that burns my butt is when people use the wrong words...

For instance, i have a co-worked who is contantly using words that do not exist or are completely wrong.  She was describing a rescue dog to me who was very skinny and malnourished she said he was just "emancipated" when she got him. Really? He was free?

Here are some other words I frequently see used incorrectly...

here - means I am "here" - in this place

hear - is what we do with our ears

y'all - it is a contraction of "you" and "all" - the apostrophe goes where the letters are missing - so the apostrophe goes in place of the ou - NOT ya'll

herd - is a group of animals (herd of cattle)

heard is the past tense of hear

Deviant -  a person or thing that deviates or departs markedly from the accepted norm

Devious -  shifty or crooked

His plan is devious. He is a sexual deviant.

irregardless is not a word! the word is regardless

So I am queen of typos - that's not really what I mean. What I mean is when people use a word that they should know the meaning of and think they are using it correctly. Even worse is someone who continuously mispronounces something and even when you say it back the correct way they do not bother to realize or even ask if they are saying it incorrectly.

Ok - sorry for my tirade. Hope I have not offended anyone, but i am sure I probably have...

Irregardless of weather or knot you off-ended someone - you has a write to find this sorta stuff earratateing. (I soooo hope you are laughing!)

BTW: I am serious about your having the right to find it annoying. We all have our little "things". (Some folks can't tolerate a picture that hangs the tiniest bit crooked.) It is fortunate that we all share the right to have our own opinions; and we all have the right to decided what we like and/or dislike. To each their own.

Language errors used it drive me - well, maybe not quite bonkers, but close. Now, for reasons I'm unaware of, such errors don't bother me - well not much, anyway. (Misused pronouns still grate on my ear. oops!) Examples of my favorites can be found here: http://aliscot.com/bigdog/pronouns... Bet these are on your list of "OMG, SHUDDER!", too. LOL

As for people who are unable to grasp some concepts because they already doing the best they can, some of them have taught me important life lessons. They often have a handle on wisdom, if not on language usage.

HOWEVER... don't get me started on people who could, should, oughta know better, but don't correct their mistakes because they can't be bothered... Lucky for them you and I have self-control. LOL
