Close Arnold-Chiari Malformation
I had Decompression surgery in June 2004 and two strokes. I live in chronic pain. I cant work, I am trying to finish my degree part-time. I have been denied disability twice.

Sm came with the CM and I had decompression surgery in 2004.

- the only treatment that worked really well was Acupuncture
Open Chronic Pain
I have CM/SM and Fibromyalgia which cause me to live in Chronic Pain. I never knew this type of pain existed until I had Decompression Surgery in 2004. Since then my life mission has been to learn how to live with this.I pray everyday that somewhere there is a cure for pain and what I call "pill relief". One thing I have learned is that most Pain Management Specialist have never had more than a headache so they really do understand what we live with everyday.
Treatments
- Cymbalta Not Working
- I was taking it for six months and felt no change in my moods or pain so I stop taking it
- Heat Working / Worked
- I have a heberal heat pack from http://www.reliefmart.com/hot-packs-and-cold-packs.htm it is my best friend I dont go anywhere without it
- Hydrocodone Somewhat Helpful
- I am now taking Vicdon 1000mg 4 times a day and I am afraid of what this is doing to my liver. I have been on some form of Hydrocodone for 4 years now.
- Lidoderm Not Working
- I tried them for six months after my decompression surgery and it did nothing for my pain
- Lyrica Not Working
- I tried it when it first came out it was suppose to be the mircle drug for people with fibromyalgia but I gained 30lb of fluid and had to stop taking it
- Meditation Working / Worked
- I have a meditation cd I put on at night and it helps me relax and I am able to go to sleep sometimes without medication
- Morphine Working / Worked
- The MS-Contin 60mg only works when I take it with Lorcet but it causes my skin to itch and burn all over, because I also take Topamax and one of the side effects is it causes me not to be able to sweat.
- Nerve Blocks Working / Worked
- It works great for 48 hours after the nerve wakes up I am in more pain than before. My doctor is afraid to give me another because he has missed the nerve twice in the back of my head. The Suprascopular Nerve Block.
- Neurontin Working / Worked
- I take it everday 1800mg. I dont know if it is really helping me or not.
- Oxycodone Not Working
- It worked for a while, but like every other pain medication my body got use to it and it stopped working.
- Physical Therapy Working / Worked
- when my insurance will pay for it great. It helps more than any of the medication the doctors over-medicate me with.
- TENS Not Working
- It seems to make my muscles tighter, maybe the settings are wrong I had no help or instructions on how to use it.
- Topamax Working / Worked
- It does'nt help my headaches at all, but I have loss 90 lb. in 10 months. I no longer have the ability to sweat so that causes a problem so I have to take Hydroxyzine for the itching and buring of my skin
- Seroquel Somewhat Helpful
- It helps with the pain at night and I cant go to see but I feel so out of it the next day and have a hard time getting up
Open Financial Challenges
I was terminated from both of my jobs in 2003 because of all the symptoms of CM/SM. I was not diagnosed until June 2004 and had surgery. I did not have any health insurance trying to buy medication. I have been denied SSI and SSD three times. I receive State disability assistance $132.00 every two week and medicaid from the State of Michigan. I am about to lose my home, I am living in it without basic utilities.

- It worked when I had enough monies coming in to pay the basic bills.
