    About Me

I have been married for three years, to my husband Joe. He is my everything. I'm an Air Force wife, who supports all branches of military service. I was raised by 2 wonderful parents, who gave me a strong faith in God. I have 2 older siblings, a sister and brother. I have 3 nieces, 5 nephews and 2 great-nephews.I love music, it's my sanity. I have a loving step-son, Ethan, who is 10. I have two dogs that are shelter rescues and our "kids" for now. Ruckus is a Lab/mix and a 1 year old. Serenity is a Shepherd/Husky mix and is 3 yrs old.

    Interests

I love to fish, hunt and enjoy the seafood of the Gulf Coast. I am a collector of all things Celtic, due to my Scottish/Irish heritage.I listen to all types of music, from country to heavy metal and all forms in between. Reading is a passion of mine. Horses are another. I like to go biking too. I love to cook and love to try new recipes. I am a history buff and have collected books on WWII (my Dad proudly served), many books on the Celts, the English monarchy and the Civil War.

    • Close Infertility

My husband had a vaso-vasectomy (vasectomy reversal) in February of 2006. Things were looking up, until recently. We have been told, that scar tissue has created a blockage and that IVF is our only hope. We have been trying for a baby, for over two years now. The pain of being childless, is a serious burden for us both. After DH's 2nd reversal in March '08, he was found to be sterile and now, IVF/ICSI is definitely, our only hope of a child of our own.

      Treatments

      Adoption Considering
We are considering adoption and go for our consultation appt on 16 May, '08. It's a big step and I am nervous. We hope to get all of our questions answered and we will make a decision from there.
      Basal Thermometer Somewhat Helpful
I tested daily, at the same time each morning, with mediocre results. after that, I stopped using it.
      In Vitro Fertilization Considering
IVF/ICSI, is only hope of conceiving. After DH's 2nd vasectomy reversal, we were told that there were no sperm present. So, it's ICSI for him and IVF for me. Hopefully, this will happen by next year.
    • Close Autism / Autism Spectrum

I have a 10 year old step-son, who has been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. I've been a part of his life since he was 6 yrs old. We share a close, loving and trusting bond. He will tell me things that he won't tell anyone else. Sometimes, he can be a handful and difficult to deal with. But, I try to work hand in hand with my DH, to help this child achieve great things in his life. Hopefully, my efforts will not be in vain.

      Treatments

      Behavior Management Working / Worked
His Dad and I work hard to get my step-son to calm down. He does the hand flapping/arm flailing; has trouble with speaking to fast and not making sense. We use the words, "control it" to signal that it's time for him to clasp his hands together, count to 10; take deep breaths. This works for the hand flapping/arm flailing. As for the fast, stumbling speech, we tell him to stop speaking, take deep breaths and count to 10. This seems to work very well for my step-son and he has greatly improved.
Independent Living Skills Working / Worked
My DH and I work on this everytime he is with us. We have been working on teaching him to brush his teeth, clean his ears, pick up after himself, cook simple meals and think for himself without anyone telling him to do things. Unfortunately, his bio-mom has placement and we are 1,200 miles away. Her influence is detrimental to this boy. She defeats him, instead of building him up. We encourage him to be an independent, self-confident young man. It seems to be working, just very slowly.
      Patience Working / Worked
It's a struggle to discipline myself to have patience. It works for his Dad and I. It seems to calm our son down and relax him, so that he can focus better.
      Pets Somewhat Helpful
It seems that having a dog around, only heightens his excitability.
    • Open Step Families

I am the step-mother of a 10 year old son. I've been a part of his life since he was 6. My DH has joint custody with his ex. The ex has physical placement. I do not get along with the ex. It's a love/hate relationship. My only concern is for my SS and his well-being.

    • Open Military Families

I've been married to my wonderful husband for 3 years. He is active duty Air Force and has been enlisted for 16 years. He is coming up for a possible deployment in Sept. of this year. Just looking for other wives and families to support and vice versa.

    • Open Adoption

DH and I just recently, after months of thinking about it, made the decision to adopt. We are Infertile and wish to give a child a loving home and family. We have an appt with an adoption counselor, in May. We will see how that goes....
