    About Me

I was diagnosed with Bipolar in 1998. Being in college at the time, it became an enormous struggle. I went through many years of trying different meds and have finally found the right combo for myself. I have since graduated and earned my teaching degree in elementary education. I currently teach in a 6th grade classroom and love it! My life philosophy is to stay positive and to look at life's obstacles as challenges, rather than problems. I am soon to marry my boyfriend of 11 years.

    • Close Bipolar Disorder

Throughout my struggle with bipolar, I have been through many meds. I have also been through some major highs and severe lows. At one point, hospitalization became necessary. I have come a long way since.

      Treatments

      Abilify Not Working
I had few side effects, but felt that it was not effective in keeping my moods stable.
      Ativan Working / Worked
I took this med for about a month and it seemed to have the same effect as Klonopin or Clonazepam. I currently take Klonopin as it is less expensive and helps with anxiety.
      Group Therapy Not Working
This is something I would like to try.
      Lamictal Working / Worked
I am getting ready to take this med again, as I could not afford it before I got insurance.
      Lithium Working / Worked
This med has been the most helpful to me so far. It has stabilized my moods, therefore decreasing my bouts with depression. I experienced mild nausea when I started taking it, but now, as long as I eat a bit of something there are no problems.
      Risperdal Somewhat Helpful
This was somewhat helpful in "pulling me out" of an oncoming depression. It also helped with anxiety.
      Seroquel Not Working
This was one of the first meds prescribed to me when I was first diagnosed. I found that it made me extremely lethargic and even more depressed.
      Trileptal Somewhat Helpful
This medicine was somewhat helpful. I do not recall any notable side effects from the medication.
      Wellbutrin Somewhat Helpful
I think this med was sort of helpful, however, it made me very ill for a while.
