Hi Joyce: Sounds like you have so much on your plate. I do think about you and hope you are doing ok. Love, Kristy

      Greetings O Beekeeper, What's the buzz?? (sorry I couldn't resist) :)

You are right about timing. It seems that we both have a lot on our plates and rarely any time for ourselves. But it would be nice if we could sometime. It's awfully lonely when you spend most of your time in the house taking care of family. But I don't regret it. I hope when I am old or sick someone takes good care of me. Good talking to you Joyce. You can relate and it's hard to explain to other people the frustrations sometimes. Kristy

I was thinking, it would be nice to meet you someday. You are about 1 1/2 hours north of me. I have no friends down here and we have a lot in common. Wouldn't that be fun?

    • Close Eating Disorders
      Type: Bulimia

Being the youngest of 4 kids, whose parents worked fulltime, I came home to an empty house. When my middle brother came home, who is dyslexic - school was a frustrating/horrible experience for him, he would eat his way through the kitchen. Thus, I learned from him that this is what we did after school to cope, as well as nuture ourselves. As a family we are all overweight/obese. Overeating is how we nuture ourselves. Sad.

      Treatments

      Dietitian Consult Not Working
No. The focus was what foods to eat, not why/emotions behind it.
      Group Therapy Somewhat Helpful
Done years ago. Was the most helpful - broke isolation
      Overeaters Anonymous (OA) Somewhat Helpful
Sometimes I felt overly serious about everything while doing the program. Which felt overwhelming at times.
      Paxil Not Working
Was on Paxil, I gained 20 pounds after I started to take.
      Prozac Not Working
In 1989, I was Prozac for a year = gained 60 pounds (very sad face).
    • Close Multiple Myeloma

My Mom was dx'ed in 12/05, with stage 4. She has not done anti-cancer tx'ment, but does take suppression tx'ment: dexamethasone every 2 weeks for 4 days ("pulse dose"), along with Prevacid. When anemic, determined by every 2 week blood work, then I give her a Procrit shot. Lastly, she gets monthly IV infusion of Zometa to keep her bones strong. Lack of energy and shortness of breath are her challenges.

      Treatments

      Dexamethasone Somewhat Helpful
increases energy, but depression happens a day or too after, increases appetite
      Zometa Somewhat Helpful
the bone fx'ed my Mom has had have been minor
      Laughter Working / Worked
My Mom now throws her banana peels over her shoulder, we laugh. She enjoys reading the National Enquirer, or I read it to her, we laugh. We play cards, I cheat, we laugh. We even got her oncologist to taste the liquid laxatives she takes- we really laughed, and so did he!
    • Open Depression
      Type: Clinical (Major) Depression

Growing up was not supportive. I was the youngest of four kids, the only girl, plus I was quiet and melted into any situation without protest. I knew I had a sensitivity about me which was a gift, but the dark side was that I have always felt sad. My first tx'ment with meds was when I was 29. I am now 47, and am on Cymbalta, which has worked for me. I'm know totally free of depression, but I have experience/more tools to cope with it, so most times I'm doing okay.

      Treatments

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Working / Worked
Takes time, but increased self awareness.
      Cymbalta Working / Worked
Little side effects for me. Expensive!
      Lexapro Working / Worked
Fine. Little side effects for me.
      Paxil Working / Worked
      Decreased anxiety. Weight gain.
      Prozac Working / Worked
      Weight gain.
      Psychotherapy Working / Worked
Expensive, but someone to help focus on what my core issues are, and to gather tools for self help.
      Wellbutrin Working / Worked
Had to stop, vision was blurred.
      Zoloft Working / Worked
      Weight gain.
      Physical Exercise Working / Worked
