Yes, I agree a Lupus support group could help your daughter get through this. Lupus is tough on us old folks (I'm 51)let alone on someone younger! Take care and you and your daughter are in our thoughts and prayers!

My daughter is 13 and 2 years ago she was diagnosed with lupus. At first is was just in her skin muscles and joints. It has now progressed to her kidneys
Treatments
- Cellcept Considering
- the jury is still out on this one. supposedly it helps but I'm not so sure now that it has spread to her kidneys which this was supposed to be protecting her from
- Prednisone Somewhat Helpful
- This one seems to have helped if for no other reason she went from 80lbs to 140lbs which was a step in the right direction. Unfourtunately this puts her in the "obese" catagory at her school (not happy about that) but she was wasting away before.
- St. John\'s Wort Working / Worked
- This is an anti-depressant that I had heard about and tried when I was going through depression over my heart condition. It does work.
- Solumedrol Working / Worked
- They gave her this instead of the Cytoxan. Side effects are not as bad but it still messed with her immune system. Will find out how good it is in the next week or so.
Close Other Heart Problems
When I was a teen, I had this premonition that I would die at the age of 45. As it would happen when I turned 45, almost to the day, I developed an enlarged heart. Needless to say I didn't die but my life as a bricklayer did. I went through the gammet of tests to determine the cause and none was found. I did find that other than the fact that my heart nolonger pumped very effecently, I was basically in pretty good health (arteries clear, organs in good shape).
