    • Close Diabetes Type 2

I'm Startrelle. I was diagnose with Type 2 Diabetes since September 2003 after having a miscarriage. It was definiely an eye-opening expereince for me. I've lost at least 5 relatives on both sides of my family to the disease. It scares me sometimes, but then I use it to motivate me to keep my blood sugar under tight control. I know it's not alwasy easy but with God on my side i know I can better handle it.

      Treatments

Eating Healthier Foods Working / Worked
I find that eating fresh fruits, veggies and whole grains make a difference in fighting Diabetes. it's also in the preartion of these foods (baking instead of frying). also helps. I've also eliminated red meats, greasy foods and some dairy products. Rice milk has become not only an acqired taste, but also cuts the extra calories and fat.
      Glipizide Working / Worked
Glipizide teamed with Metformin helps control the numbers as well as aid in weight loss.
      Physical Exercise Working / Worked
I've been overweight for most of my life. The best exercise that's worked for me is walking. I did go to the gym, but by far, the walking and cardio has worked for me. In a 3 year period, I went from 240 lbs to my current weight at 180 lbs. mostly through exercise. Also, drinking lots of water, especially Kangen water has taken the excess weight off and has hydrated my body. For the first time in my life, I'm wearing a single-digit size 8!
    • Close Depression
      Type: Clinical (Major) Depression

Hi, I'm Startrelle. Though I have yet to be formally diagnosed, I believe that I do deal with depression. During the last three years alone, I've gone thru at least 3 deaths in the family, job loss, homelessness and financial challenges. I'd like to think that I am growing while going through this challenge in my life and that one day I will overcome this.

      Treatments

      Writing Working / Worked
I've been doing some writing as a cathartic means to deal with my pain. I find that writing The Morning Pages (from The Artists' Way which I highly recommend) and I've written a treatment for a screenplay based on a true story. I am finding that it's helping me to cope.
    • Open Homelessness

I've been homeless off and on for the last decade, mainly due to the lack of stable well-paying jobs and the flaky economy. As many others in America, I am living proof that you don't have to have a substance abuse problem to be homeless. To look at me in person, you would never know I was homeless. I am clean-cut, educated and carry myself well. I'm just going thru some personal challenges in my life that I am working on, perhaps to be of help to others.
