I am the partner of a PA addict. He was in denial and I used to accept the little commitment he seemed to have around quitting. I finally realized that I was in denial (as much as he was)and have given him an ultimatum. We are both in recovery.

      Treatments

      Patience Somewhat Helpful
I am in "let it be" or "wait and see" mode. It is a difficult space to be in sometimes but it is working ~for now.
      Psychotherapy Considering
We went in the past but I don't think the counsellor was right for us as a couple. Starting to think it might be a good idea.
      Talking Working / Worked
We are getting much more effective in our communication. He is not having emotional upsets as frequently (seems to be getting a handle on the emo maturity). As long as we are in communication I feel that progress is being made.
      Writing Somewhat Helpful
Writing down my thoughts and feelings is a way of expressing them without dumping on another. I find it can be quite therapeutic but then sometimes I find it perpetuates a negative cycle (if that is the space I already am in)
    • Close Sex / Pornography Addiction

I am the partner of a PA. In the past I accepted his feeble attempts to quit and have recently realized my own denial around this. I get my contribution (through denial) and I have given him an ultimatum. I will only stand for him if he is serious about quitting and taking visible and measurable action to quit. We are both in recovery programs.

      Treatments

      Talking Somewhat Helpful
As difficult as it is to do sometimes (for both of us), talking about the addiction with my husband is actually proving to be helpful. It is a good indicator of how he is doing (if he is open he's doing ok, if he is withdrawn, something is up).
      Writing Somewhat Helpful
It is good to put it out there instead of keeping it in my head. It provides a sense of release.
