    • Close Fibromyalgia

Diagnosed with FM about 8 years ago after coming off prozac too soon. - I was completely crippled with 6 weeks. Going back on prozac helped ease the pain but it is still there most days. I had a massive tumour (cervical) removed at the beginning of this year and the symptoms of Fibro went away for a blissful 6 months! However, they have just started to reoccur again now so I assume I was just in remission - I'm grateful the remission was during my recovery from the hysterectomy.

      Treatments

      Elavil Somewhat Helpful
Eased the pain but the exhaustion the same or worse.
      Caffeine Working / Worked
I take these to stop the exhaustion - they are just a high dose of caffiene and as such not a great thing to take but on days when I just have to get work done I need these to stay alert.
    • Close Depression
      Type: Clinical (Major) Depression

I suffered depression for many years through my teens and into my 30s with two major break downs. I seem to be clear of it now - it must be 8 years since I had a bout of it so I'd like to join this to help anyone who may need help with it. I've run depression groups for some years and encourage people to laugh through stories and drawings.

      Treatments

      Celexa Working / Worked
have had this for Fibro but did not like it due to causing heart palpitations if I forgot a day or so
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Working / Worked
This was very good in a time of desperate need
      Meditation Not Working
      hopeless, got the giggles
      Positive Thinking Working / Worked
One of the best things - 10 happy/funny thoughts EVERY night before going to sleep. Works a treat.Side effect - spontanious laughter may disturb your partner
      Prozac Working / Worked
worked extremely well for me, I take it now to control pain with Fibromyalgia. I credit Prozac to my surviving at all :-)
      Psychotherapy Not Working
no help at all, I find counselling to be too introverted and self indulgent - not good for depression. That's just a personal experience.
Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
Of course this always is a help
      Writing Working / Worked
The most brilliant thing to do IF you write about positive things and include funny things like drawings etc. Do not allow yourself to get too self absorbed or it will not work.
      Art Working / Worked
I drew cartoons and laughed and laughed and then showed them to others and laughed again when they laughed - the VERY best medicine!
    • Open Arrhythmias
      Type: Tachycardia

Had serious Arythmia attacks at about 28. Was one of the first 100 in this country to get an ablation to correct the abnormal rhythm. IT worked a treat for a year but then the Arythmia came back though not as seriously. When they went in again to find it they couldn't. I just put up with it now as it doesn't happen often and seems not to be too serious. It does seem though that the fitter I get the more problems with it I have - weird?

      Treatments

      Radiofrequency Ablation Working / Worked
The Tachycardia is not nearly as severe though I do get the occasional attack especially when exercising. I generally just ignore it.
      Tambocor Working / Worked
was on this while I waited for the ablation. yes it worked but it was scary if I forgot to take a tablet
    • Open Hysterectomy

Had a large cervical tumour removed in Feb of this year (2007). The recovery took a lot longer than I expected.
