Your dad CAN get stronger. The Whipple can definetly give lots of time. My friend had it over 2 years ago. She is doing okay so far.

Hi Michelle. Your dad was very fortunate to have been eligable for the whippe surgery. Although a huge surgery and recover can be challenging. Some people recover quicker than others. It's very early on for your dad so don't be discouraged. Call PanCan (California) and ask for a Pal's associate. They will send you lots fo information free. They can also recommend an experienced oncologist in your area. They can set your dad up with a buddy, someone who is going through the same thing. It can be email or phone, his choice. Great organization for information and support. Their # is 877-272-6226. Website: www.pancan.org Please join us on the Johns Hopkin's message board. There are a lot of whipplees and distal survivors and caregivers. I had the distal surgery (tail) in 2003. http://pathology.jhu.edu/n.web?EP=... Good luck to your dad! I'll pray for a smooth recovery.

My father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in July, 2007. Three weeks ago he had the Whipple Procedure. He appears weaker every day. The next step is chemo. Is there anyone out there that can tell me this procedure has prolonged their life or a family members life and what type of chemo was done following the surgery?
