    • Close Bipolar Disorder

Husband (misanthrop) is BPI. Looking for advice and support to understand and cope with bipolar. The meds/treatment I list are what he has gone through:

      Treatments

      Abilify Not Working
made him fall asleep at ackward times: standing up, sitting down, while urinating!
      Adderall Working / Worked
helps with concentration, but starts many mood swings.
      Depakote Not Working
      not much control over rages
      Effexor Working / Worked
has worked well in conjuction with other meds. hard to lose weight while on it.
      Geodon Working / Worked
currently using. does NOT WORK unless coupled with lithium.
      Group Therapy Not Working
went to the hospital and got group therapy for the afternoon. all he did was COLOR! (IE markers/crayons/colroing books!)
      Holistic Health Working / Worked
taking 5-HTP, vitamin C, and fish oil (omega-3 fatty acids).
      Invega Working / Worked
was helpful in stablizing manias, but had same side effects as Risperdal: No sperm count, massive weight gain (45lbs in 3 mos)
      Lamictal Working / Worked
trying it again. the first time around caused a lot of nausea. taking nausea pills this time around. update: currently at theraputic level for 3 weeks (150mg). seems to be giving some control to depression, but he still gets very depressed.
      Lithium Working / Worked
only thing that has appeared to consistently have good effects. gives him the shakes every so often
      Risperdal Working / Worked
decent results, but bad side effects: 100lb weight gain, NO sperm count.
      Seroquel Not Working
made him feel stooooned all the time
      Strattera Not Working
just started. too soon to tell results. read that it will help with manias, but can't start if you are CURRENTLY IN a mania as it can only lengthen/increase it. update: got off of it. can't recall why, i think it did start some manias
      Wellbutrin Not Working
no real theraputic effects on bipolar. didn't even curb the smoking.
      Zyprexa Not Working
    • Close Bereavement
      Type: Loss of a Parent

Lost 3 loved ones 6 months apart: mom & grandmother (2 weeks apart), and dad at the beginning of august. trying to work through a mess of feelings and handle the stress of settling affairs- probate, etc. any advice and support is welcome.

      Treatments

      Grief Counseling Somewhat Helpful
went to a handful of sessions. a few were helpful, but guess didn't really feel comfortable with her. going to try a new one on of these days...
      Keeping Busy Working / Worked
best therapy for me, although have been told that i am avoiding feelings instead of facing them.
      Scrapbooking Working / Worked
busy work, helps me keep their memory alive.
      Talking Working / Worked
talking with friends has helped A LOT to sort through some of the tough feelings.
      Time Somewhat Helpful
it's been a year since mom's death. i feel i miss her more now that when she left us. i miss her calling me, hugging me, telling me that things will be okay.
