having more than four episodes in one year is classed as rapid cycling.
there is ultra rapid and ultraidian rapid cycling which is weekly, daily, hourly, whateverly i believe.
then there is switching, which is from one to another with no stability in between.... then there is bp1, bp2, schizo affective, bp spectrummmmmmm....
bp aliens and werewolfs.
i dont think anyone knows anymore.

from one episode straight into another yes. normally there should be a period of normalcy in between episodes.
ultra rapid cycling is harder to diagnose as bp because the diagnostic criteria for BP is at least one episode of mania or hypermania lasting at least one week and episodes of depression lasting the same or longer.
And if you switch, you're often misdiagnosed as something else, like borderline personality disorder.
If you think you're a beeper, see a psych, not you're wife! But yeh, she might have more insight than you into your episodes. -

depression wil almost always follow mania, but switching is without the few days/hours/weeks of normalcy in between. -

I sometimes feel grateful for it... I couldnt handle the intensity for a long period of time, although id prefer the predictability.
