Help I am new to insulin dependant diabetes
Posted on 08/16/08, 11:25 am
I am in love with and living with a man who has type 2 diabetes and is insulin dependant. I should probably mention that in addition to this he has a brain tumor. I can't think of the name right now but it is on the pituary gland and causes abnormal bone growth and all the things associated with hormone imbalance. He has had the tumor removed once but it is back. On top of that we have all the issues of a new blended family. We have been in the same house for about 7 months now and though my love has only grown, I have been feeling quite overwhelmed and helpless. In particular his neuropathy is getting quite bad and for the past two weeks has been experiencing nausea non-stop. To the point that he is barely eating and that is big time unusual for this guy. Any help, advice, information anyone can give me would be so welcome. Any thing that I can give back is yours without question.

Although I am type 2 I do not have to take insulin YET. I am sorry for your partner's woes, athough that is all I can do for you. I UNDERSTAND insulin injections can be pretty benign these days, but have not ever taken them except after my stroke where they kinda "raked" them into my tummy. Good luck to both of you. All I can do is commiserate. Try to be happy; one CAN live w/ diabetes. One piece of useful info: Ask your podiatrist about annual free shoes. We are entitled to them as diabetics. They would rather give us diabetes-shoes free than remove a foot. Sorry I could not be more help. Gene
