Couldn't hurt trying the metformin. I have mild PCOS, which means that I still have a period every month naturally but the symptoms of PCOS are few and not severe at all.
There are times when I wish I could just miss one period though. It is always very heavy and very painful. My cycle is never a consistan length either. One will be 27 days and the next will be nearly 40 days. Oddly enough the longet my cycle the less painful and less heavy it will be, but it will bad everytime.
I say go and see a reproductive endocrinologist. Even if he/she fixes one thing for you they will have helped tremendously. Because the cause of your extremely heavy periods could be as simple as a vitamin or mineral defficeny, or a simple hormone imbalance.
Good luck!

getting my natural period back...

2 years ago I had a horrible menstrual episode where I basically kept hemorraging (sp?sorry...)
The bleeding was non stop for months and became so heavy I went to the hospital. At the hospital they hospital did some major testing and nothing came back abnormal, except that I do have small cysts. Anyways I was put on birth control to stop the bleeding and I have been on it ever since. At one point a dr wanted to do a D&C but since it can cause scarring I did not follow through.
So now that I do want to conceive in the next year or so, I want to greatly try to get my natural period back - if that is possible. I just went out and got some vitamins and I have been thinking about the doing the south beach diet and trying my hardest to be stress free and excersize. I do believe all these things contributed to my problem.
I am just really scared to get off the birth control and bleed like crazy again because there is a HUGE chance.
One doctor of mine mentioned metformin, but would it be ok for me to start this so soon, would it help after coming off the pill??
I appreciate all your help :)

TTC is hard enough for some people but when you have PCOS it gets a whole lot harder. So I wanted a place where people TTC with PCOS can some and share storys, thoughts, and feeling on their TTC Journey.
