Comid and Metformin!

Posted on 05/31/08, 05:48 am
I've been taking clomid for 5 cycles now- currently on my 5th at 100mg. The next step if this does not work is to take clomid and met. Does any one know of any sucess stories. I'm feeling like it will never happen.

I was already on metformin when I did my first round of clomid. So I don't know if one helped the other. I did have four folicles but never ovulated, don't know why just didn't.

I got pregnant finally with 1500mg metformin and 150mg clomid. Metformin is probally make you sick at first but stick with it, it is truly a miracle drug for PCOS!!! I am now 28weeks pregnant and counting down the days until my little girl gets here, hopefully you will be soon too!

Hey I have done three cycles with clomid only and the last cycle was clomid and met. My first three cycles no O prog only 6, then 4 twice (needs to be greater than twenty to be O). The last cycle with clomid and met my prog got to 18 - so even though still no O my numbers improved lots. I am currently on my very last cycle of clomid and met before moving on to follistim so am hoping and hopeful that this will be my month. Good luck.

I've been on clomid ( in increasing doses) since october. up to 150mg now. i've been taking metformin since march. still have yet to ovulate. in fact, the only thing the metformin has done so far is stop my cycles from starting completely. for over 2 yrs now (since getting off birth control) i've been taking prometrium to start a monthly cycle. now the prometrium won't even do it.

i will say that i've heard that metformin isn't as effective as once thought. it still can work, depends on the person.

TIP: ween yourself ON to the metformin. it usually comes in 500mg increments. if your doc wants you at 1500 mg for example, take 500 a day for a week, then 500am and 500pm for a week, then 500am and 1000pm after that until eventually you can take all 1500mg at a time (usually at night)...i had very little problem with the gastrointestinal side effects that everyone talks about.

    good luck!

My doctor told me that you have an 80% chance of ovulating while taking both Clomid and Metformin. Good luck.

I have been on metformin for 2 months now and I am on a 150mg of Clomid as well as a steriod for Clomid resistance called dexamethasone. I had 3 folicles this time. Just an FYI Clomid can make your folicles grow but may not make you ovulate. Some think this it the same but its not. My follicles will grow to mature sizes and never release so I have to take Ovidrel as a trigger shot to make my eggs release. So defaintly keep that in mind during this and may be something to talk to your doctor about. It's very common in PCOS for this to happen! Good luck sweeite. I am currently in my 2 weeks of wating! Oh and metformin will defiant;y make you sick but it should go away in about a week!

I saw an RE on Tuesday....he doubled the amount of metformin I'm taking from 1000 to 2000 per day, and we're now up to 150 on the clomid. He also switched me from prometrium to provera. I've heard these two are similar. Anyone have any success on this combo?
