I picture myself on how I want to look and tell myself that is how I will get there. Even if it is only walking 5-10 more minutes. I guess every little bit helps! -

I haven't been able to do that. After walking an hour and 15 minutes my legs and knees are too wobbly. I suspect this would change if I lost weight. -

I deal with the discomfort by taking ibufprofen and putting ice packs on my calves. Like now I'm having pain in my left lower leg in the back because I overdid my walking. From now on I'm going to start out slow, walking for 20 minutes and then increasing the minutes to 40 but not for four weeks yet. My left leg is shorter than my right leg so maybe that's why it's hurting more than my right leg.

I don't measure by the amount of time that I spend walking. I wear a pedometer and measure the steps that I take. After I had my 1st daughter, I bought a book called "The Step Diet", it came with a pedometer and the book was interactive. You would log how many steps you took each day for a week, then get the average. The first week you would walk the steps that you averaged the first week, then each subsequent week, you would add 500 steps a day (for example: week 1 5000 steps per day, week 2 5500 steps per day, week 3 6000 steps per day, etc...) It worked for me and I am going to start back up as soon as I am released by my doc to exercise. It also helps me teach my 3 girls to keep active.
