Cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques.
Mine happen mostly in the dark as moving shapes or waves. Its hard to explain. I don't see pink fuzzy bunnies or whatever. It's usually a distortion of the area around me.
I try to rationalize it and remind myself it isn't reality - its how my brain is perceiving reality at a given time. I tell myself it can't hurt me and if I just be patient, it will stop.

what helps you besides meds when you are having such symptoms as hallucinations?

My significant other always helps me come back down to earth. It really helps to have someone around that you can trust to ask, " did you just see that?", ext. Though, he doesn't quite help much with delusions, having someone you're around a lot aware of your problem can be really helpful. My hallucinations are incredibly lucid, and not at all out of place with the outside world, i.e. a woman with a gun following me, and white cats in my house that don't exist. It's really difficult for me to differentiate them from reality, so having a partner there to reassure me that I am safe helps a lot. I don't know the nature of your hallucinations, however, I hope this helps. -

I'd have to agree having a significant other really helps bringing oneself back to reality as it were. However, when I find out it's only me that's seeing the grim reaper at the foot of my bed constantly always starring at me makes me freak out just a little. Thank god I no longer see him and now am stable on meds. Thank God for meds......
